I want to make a wizard with strong summons. What is the best spell group to invest in? Geomancy is the obvious candidate, with no less than 4 summons, while Witchcraft possesses two separate summons. These are the two obvious candidates. While Geomancy has more summons, I have read that the Witchcraft ones are by far the strongest. Is this true?

The remaining spell groups only have a single summon a piece, but as long as that particular summon is rather strong, it would be worthwhile to obtain. Are the Fire/Ice/Air worth investing in their respective skill groups for?

Witchcraft summons and Geomancer, are best and most in that order.

All the other schools can only sumon an elemental and they are sort of weak.

Spider and Armred undead Decapitator are my go to summons spells, bloodswarm is also kinda weak.

I load my fighter up with summon scrolls so I can have the most summons available for a party, but usually instead of summoning, I get the mage to buff the fighter, he is usually a better investment if built well and buffed heavily than any other summons.

Building a wizard around summons has some drawbacks: First, you can only use one summon at a time. Second, some enemies have the Destroy Summon skill and can immediately kill that summon. Third, Summons tend to have poor accuracy, no skills to speak of and low damage even if they do hit (Physical-damage ones are better, though).

However, once your INT is high enough, the cooldown on skills will be reduced so that the cooldown for summons is reduced to 1 turn, so you can summon the same guy each turn if they die, so there's no real need to get more than a couple.

I think the Fire Elemental summon is particularly weak. Check the requirement, the lower a level you have to be to use it, the weaker it will be in comparison.
