Overall I have been enjoying this game but there is one aspect that absolutely drives me mad. Anytime I encounter a locked door or chest that I lack a key for, I have to bash it down (because lockpicks are simply too expensive in terms of both ability points and monetary cost). This often takes several minutes of real time because doors and chest have so much bloody health, which is done right irritating when I just want to move on and continue playing the game.

Either let us bash done doors and chest or don't, but if it is supposed to be a viable option, please do not waste several minutes of the players time for choosing to do it. Weapon degradation as a consequence of bashing is fine and quite logical, but you should never resort to wasting the players time as a game mechanic.

I use an unbreakable weapon and have the fighter do it, it speeds it up a little and the weapon does not degrade, heck I keep an unbreakable around just for that duty.

Its not the weapon degradation that bothers me though, just the massive amount of time it takes to actually bash something down.

Yes. But this is the only reason why lockpicking isn't totally useless laugh

I tend to use basic fire spells like flare and an intelligent wizard. Early in the game the 20-30 per hit is annoying and it takes 40-50 seconds to bash down a chest indeed. But later the damage will be in the hundreds plus the burning effects. And you don't even need an unbreakable weapon.

You can buy/find nails and craft them into lockpicks!

Every time there I run into trouble on the road, there is always a dwarf at the bottom of it. Don't they know how to drive above ground?

I propose make doors and chest 10 times more durable.
There is a key all the time, somewhere. Find it. Pick-pocket it.
You could use the lockpick skill.
You could load the chest on back and run to the lava lake to put it there.
You could accept that some boxes are nearly impossible to open. Consider that indestructible magical boxes are quite common in the fantasy world. :P
You should accept that world works as a system, it is not created to let loot themselves. :-]
