This game has drawn a large number of attention in variant Chinese forums, and well, some of them even have released assorted translated editions. Even if English has been set as a one of the major courses in China for years, the education is more likely designed for examinations but practical usage. Understanding the content of a game in English, especially an RPG, is still extremely difficult for most of Chinese players. Compared with Italian players, learning English might be even harder, after all, the two languages have nothing in common.


I tried some of the translated editions of the game. Frankly speaking, the translation editions somehow were not able to show the spirit of this amazing game in Chinese, due to they were translated in an improper situation - the extracted lines were scattered, so the translators had to guess the meanings of them without related to the actual scene of the game.

There were numerous fans of Divinity series in China before, dating as far back as when Beyond Divinity release. I send a e-mail to the game team before but got no response (not surprised to see if it was treated as a spam mail).

I am willing to be one of the volunteers to localize the game to Chinese, and this will be quite helpful for my English learning.

Further more, if there was a Chinese Edition, considering the huge market in China, we all can imagine what could be possible in the future. This might be rather helpful for the developing of the coming two games, and who knows?

Interesting point. You would have to show that there is a market/profit that outweights the costs. Maybe by signing a petition :P I always have the same problem with japanese games that seldomly/only after long time get translated. And then I have to rely on inofficial translation projects as well.

I agree that I almost do not care anymore about a German translation because, well, I am fluent in English and most Europeans are meanwhile (at least the gamers). However, I can't speak japanese or chinese and I can imagine that it is much harder for chinese to learn english because it is not so similar to their language.

After I reviewed my post again, I found a few grammatical mistakes, so I edited the topic for a better understanding. I am sorry I didn't make it clear that I wanted to be one of the volunteers to localize this game in Chinese.

While talking about the market, or to be accurate, the number of steam users who speak Chinese all over the world, I am not able to tell the exact amount, but it might be a huge figure.

With the help of official game producer, the process of localization will be much smoother and simpler. As a fan of Divinity: Original Sin, I just don't want it to be unknown to the Chinese Players.

So here comes a question, could I handle the translation work of the game? All right, let me show something up so everyone could check it out then. The link below is my recent translation work:

ps: Steamcn is a mature and large Chinese forum in which legal steam players share their interests together.

There is more translating that will need to be done once the text is finalized for the upcoming balancing patch (with a harder difficulty mode and new skills, etc). There are a couple groups that have requested early access to the new text, which I assume would need some kind of NDA or contract to grant.
In the meantime, you could maybe help fix issues with one of the existing translation efforts (assuming some of them are still being worked on).

Unfortunately, I am not able to decode the translated files, because I am not a member of any of the translation teams, and they do not accept informal applications.
Anyway, let's wait and see what will happen then.

The translated file would either be a replacement of the '..\SteamApps\common\Divinity - Original Sin\Data\Localization\English\english.xml' file, or a different xml file and change to the language.lsx configuration file in the Localization folder. This file can be edited in any text editor.

Thanks but the localizations are always done like this? I mean, these sentences are placed disorderedly, therefore, it will be difficult to understand the meaning of them and leads to a large number of translation mistakes.

If the former translations were finished in the simple way as I mentioned, that might explain why there are a bunch of problems in the French edition.

I would rather help doing this in a more proficient way but guessing the meanings of the sentences blindly.

I assume the official translations would use something that grouped conversations together, etc.

I have downloaded the latest translated version of the game by the user alexfy of 3DM forum.
The XML file has been completely translated already. The original thread is here:

By expanding the "Open with" menu, the file could be opened via "Shiftedit", so anyone will be able to edit the file online.

For me I still think we need the help of the official team, in order to make the best translation.
