I've been playing this wonderfull game for the fifth time and one of the goals I've set myself was to finally finish the Tingalf quests.Previous times something always remained in my quest book as unresolved ,no matter what I tried. To this aim I followed the instructions of Kiya about this topic in a previous post.I followed them exactly. This means I played for a while in the least pleasurable manner, with a printed out version on my knee and following it to the letter in exactly the same sequence.Everything went as planned, until at the end Trevor did not give me any speech options to complete his quest.
Just before Robin had told me he was informed by Marcus,I had both speech options with him and he left to arrest Tingalf, who subsequently disappeared.I then went to Trevor, even with the relevant letters still in my inventory, but he didn't give me an option to talk about Tingalf again.
I'm absolutely positive that I followed Kiya's instructions exactly (first thing I did was get the quest from Trevor),so I can only assume she did something else that had an effect but she considered it as so unimportant that she did not write it down.Or I did something before this whole sequence, like buying stuff from Tingalf, that messed things up.
I remember in one of my previous games,I did get the speech options from Trevor and completed his quest, but then something else had gone wrong. All in all, this was more frustrating than fun and I hope Beyond Divinity will not have this kind of badly designed quests.(But still like the game off course...and Kiya )

After I joined the merchant's guild (Tingalf had already been arrested), I could ask Trevor if there was anything I could do for him, and he brought up a suspected black market dealer. I completed the quest by saying he had already been arrested. There was a speech option listed early (as I recall, I could tell Trevor that Tingalf had been arrested before he brought the subject up), but I don't know if skipping to the end of the conversation would cause a problem.
I bought suff from Tingalf (a ring and maybe something else), and didn't have a problem.

Beyond Divinity is divided into 4 acts, so it should be much harder to do quests in an unexpected order.

Hallo Raze, thank you for your quick reply.
I wanted to follow Kiya's sequence exactly, because in replies to her post it was stressed this was necessary to avoid breaking the line of quests. She noted that step 1 should be to "Get black market quest from Trevor and missing wagon quest from Marcus." So the first thing I did was to join the merchant's guild,so I could get the quest from Trevor.I then went to Marcus and followed all the steps in order until Robin arrested Tingalf, but when I returned to Trevor (final step),he did not give me any options to talk about Tingalf at all(and his quest remained unsolved). So there wasn't even any conversation to skipp. And ,no offense, but I did not do anything in what could be logically called an "unexpected order".

My description was just to say there are other ways the quest can be done successfully. Even following the same procedure, apparently there is no guarantee everything will go well. I don't know what the problem was in this case.

No, but you did say you hoped Beyond Divinity would not have such poorly designed quests. The length of this quest makes it relatively easy to do things out of expected order. This is the main, though not exclusive, cause of it being broken. With Beyond Divinity in 4 acts, the number of quests open simultaneously should be reduced, making it easier for the Larians to make sure there are no problems doing things in various sequences.

I agree. There probabily are ways to complete it successfully, but with so many people having completed the game several times nobody is able to present a procedure that does guarantee everything will go well. And if it goes wrong it's unclear what caused it.I think ,for this small part of the game, that qualifies as poor desing.

Again I agree.I would think that the problem is that it consists of a line of quests with three different questgivers (Trevor,Marcus and Robin),which are badly integrated.I hope they avoid that in .After all, they could still try something similar even within a single smaller act.
