I started a new game recently. While I play the game it runs fine and I'm able to save and load fine. When I quit the game and launch later, the game does not show my new save under my profile. I've started a new profile so there should be one save under the profile and there isn't. I've located the save data under Documents/Larian Studios/Divinity Original Sin/Player Profiles/<name of my profile>/Savegames
I am playing on a Mac Book Pro running 10.10.1

Try rebooting, or shut down the computer and restart. That has helped some people with this problem.

When troubleshooting, it will make restarting the game faster and give cleaner results if you at least temporarily disable cloud support for the game, if applicable.
You can do this either globally (in the client click on the Steam menu and select Settings, and then Cloud) or just for this game (in the library right click Divinity: Original Sin and select Properties, then switch to the Updates tab and check the Steam Cloud section).

If you create another a new profile, can you start a new game, save and then either restart or switch profiles and back and still see the save? If so, you could try moving your saves from your current profile to the new one. That can help, or one person just said they renamed the profile folder.

If a new profile doesn't help, (leaving cloud support disabled) browse to the '~/Documents/Larian Studios' folder and rename the 'Divinity Original Sin' folder.
When you next start the game, it will recreate these folders and configuration files, and prompt you to create a new profile. If you do so, as above, does a new save show up, or one of your old saves copied to the new profile's savegames folder?

One person reported that this happen occasionally in OSX, but if they booted into Windows, loaded a save and re-saved, when they booted back into OSX all the saves would be shown. Similarly, someone else on a Mac trying this troubleshooting said the initial rebooting and renaming of profiles didn't help, but when they moved a quicksave from a renamed profile into a new profile, the saves showed up in the old profile.

If you use the Save Game Editor to extract the contents of the save file (compressed archive), the save should show up in the game. MooseEdit is a Windows program, but apparently can be run in Wine on OSX.

I've tried all of this except for the save game editor and I do not have parallels or bootcamp and nothing has worked. Furthermore, on a multiplayer game that my friend has saved, i cannot see any of the added stats on any of the characters but my friend can. Is something not loading for me? It seems as though my character is a blank slate.

You can try playing the game from a different OSX user account, and see if that makes a difference.

The save editor will work, if you can't get the saves to show up with creating / renaming profiles and moving save folders.
Once MooseEdit is setup under Wine and configured with the paths to the ~/Documents/.../PlayerProfiles folder and the Data folder in the game's install folder, it will list all the profiles and saves in a column. After each play session, if you select the latest save, and click the Load button, then click on the 'Extract all from LSV' button at the top left (open box icon), next to the 'Save all changes' button (3.5" floppy disk icon), that save will then show up in the game (since the problem is related to the compressed save format).

That problem in multi-player can generally be fixed by the host reloading the save (possibly multiple times).

Alright thank you for the help, one of my quick saves somehow showed up for single player so hopefully it will start working.

I have the same problem on my iMac with OS X 10.10.4. I haven't been able to restore any of my saved games. As soon as I quit the game and restart it, the saves are gone, although they show up in the saved games folder.
What I tried so far:

- logging off and back my user account
- restarting computer
- disabling cloud support in steam
- creating new profile
- copying old saves to new profile
- renaming Divinity Original Sin folder, creating new profile and saving.
- copying old saves to new profile in new Divinity Original Sin folder
- installed MooseEdit via Wine but MooseEdit didn't show any LSV-files in the playerprofiles folder nor could I find the "Data"-folder on my Mac
- to play the game from another user-account I have to install it from scratch for the other account, because Steam is installing games seperatly on every user-account.

I hope there is a solution for this problem, because in the current state, the game is pretty much useless to me.

Greetings

For MooseEdit, AFAIK the data path in OSX should be something like:

C:\Users\<UserName>\Library\Application Support\Steam\SteamApps\common\Divinity - Original Sin\Divinity - Original Sin.app\Contents\Data\

In the Steam library, if you right click on D:OS and select Properties, switch to the Local Files tab and click the 'Browse Local Files...' button, it will open Finder at the install folder. That should identify where the Data folder is, and hopefully let you copy the full path, or at least see it so you can browse there through MooseEdit.

To try playing the game from a different account without reinstalling, try browsing to the install folder for your current user account, right click the 'Divinity - Original Sin.app' file and select 'Open Container', browse to the 'shipping' folder and launch the EoCApp.exe executable. If needed, copy the app file to another location first, where both user accounts have full access.

Thank you for the tips with MooseEdit. The Editor is now working, but there seems to be an issue with the saved archives. MooseEdit can't load any of my saves. It tells me "Could not find meta information file".
There are two old saves my wife made in November last year. These saves are the only ones that are still working. And these are the only ones that I can open in MooseEdit.
There is a later save in her profile that doesn't work too, and any new saves that are made or copied to her profile won't work either. Seems like something broke the save-routine in between time.

If you start a new game (or load one of the working saves) and save, can you load that save during the same session (if you don't quit or switch profiles)? Or does the game freeze or hang if you try?

There are two problems in OSX which have similar symptoms. The first is just an issue with the saves being displayed in the load window, but the save themselves are ok; this can generally be fixed by the suggestions above. A much rarer problem (also reported once in Windows) involves the saves being corrupt during the save process, so even while they are shown in the load window, they will not load properly. In that case the only workaround that I know of is to play from a different OSX user account (one person had this happen in their main account, with their Documents folder moved to a Dropbox folder with a symbolic link, but if they played under a new account with a default Documents folder it would save properly).

O.K. This is strange:
I loaded one of the old saved games in my wife's profile. Then I saved it again with a new name. Saving and loading seems to work ok in this profile, even if I quit the game, start it again and load a saved game.
My own profile doesn't work at all.
So I deleted it and created a new profile with a different name. Then I created new characters and started from scratch. Now saving and loading seems to work. I can quit the game and can load any saved game when I restart it. Just as it is supposed to be.

I don't know what changed, besides I hadn't deleted the old profile before. I lost my saves, but at least I can play now, hopefully without any further complication.

Greetings

People have gotten the saves to work by renaming profiles, so maybe moving your old one would have worked as well as deleting it, and you might have been able to move your latest save to a new profile that was working (unless you already tried that). Oh well, at least it is working now.
