So.. I bought the first one and liked it, but when it came to using the tools.. good god that thing was not friendly at all for someone who didn't know how to script.
Is there any chance Divinity OS II will have a easier user friendly creation tool kit?
Oh and please add in a respawn option for user made stuff? I really didn't like the dead world feel of D:OS.

It would be nice to see a slightly more user-friendly toolkit: I had a look but decided that the learning curve seemed a bit steep. I'm admitting some blame myself from the "can't be bothered to figure it out" perspective, but e.g. Oblivion's Construction Set was a lot easier to figure out. On the other hand, Construction Set crashed often, which is a less desirable trait...

yay Vometia hello again! glad to see familiar face in the community.
I will admit it also, I jumped into it and was like overwhelmed so it was a me thing, I didn't want to spend a week trying to find tutorials.
So far the only kit I have been able to use properly when it comes to new games.. has been the Skyrim one.

Nice to see you around again too. I completely understand what you're getting at, I ended up wanting to hide under the duvet after unsuccessfully trying to figure it out. Part of me thought that was a bit of a cop-out as I managed to change some of the models in Ego Draconis even though it wasn't officially supported, so I kinda thought if the determination is there... but I guess that's what happens when a person has such random whims. To be fair to you, modding Skyrim is extremely well supported and has a very long heritage going back to at least Morrowind, both officially and in terms of user-made tools. Although Bethesda's take on the Gamebryo engine and derivatives is a bit wobbly it does at least mean that they're some of the most accessible games out there for would-be modders, and actually I used some of the same tools to muck about with Divinity 2 (Blender worked with just a little faffing about, as did NifSkope, for example, but I digress). Talking of digressing, I'm hoping that FO4 will have the same degree of support: I guess we'll find out before too long...

Hi Ellary! Glad to see you back! Regarding the toolkit: Larian claim that they have improved it and we have to wait to see whether it became more user-friendly.

At the very least, one of the writers on the D:OS 2 kickstarter mentioned there's a shiny new dialog editor, so that's nice, considering what an inconvenient eyesore the current one is. Not sure if that'll show up in the Enhanced Edition editor or not, though. And hopefully they'll make the cheat commands (to rez your characters and kill enemies and all that) actually work. And model imports to actually function (or maybe just a tutorial, since people can't seem to really figure it out). And the reload stats function to actually work.
Not expecting scripting to change much, unfortunately. It definitely can be a tough nut to crack. Level design, too, takes a LOT of patience, especially with no undo function for texturing or terrain design >.<
Lots of little things make it hard to use. Hopefully the biggest offenders will be dealt with, at least.

If they upgrade the quest and dialogue editors, that will be amazing and will make me have less work to do lol. But I'm planning on modifying the kit when they release the EE edition of it so that there will be several wizards available for people to use to create content a lot quicker and easier than before (like how the NWN kit was).

Yay glad to see there are more of us who need a better kit! I literally felt like I needed to have taken college classes in game design to understand the one they have now.

well I must admit I did not have time to really toy with the editor, just had time to do some tutorials... but it looked quite powerful and usually powerful tools goes along with high complexity, it is almost unevitable

Power does not have to sacrifice intuitiveness and simplicity.
The gold standard of editors was the Neverwinter Nights editor, I'd even argue that the Heroes of Might and Magic 3 editor ranked up there too.
It was simple, yet could be ultra complex. There was a learning curve, but the curve was there to explore what more you could create not just creation in general.
It's been super frustrating trying to use the editors that ship with games now a days. Just for an example, the editor that shipped with Dragon Age: Origins was completely broken upon release and about 30% of the features were broken (like water).

I'm a C programmer, so I admit there's a certain bloody-minded pride in learning something that was not especially welcoming for newcomers ("it is user-friendly! It's just very choosy about who its friends are.") But I do agree, life's too short to go through that too often. I did actually manage to use DA:O's Toolkit or whatever it was called to make some very minor changes, but it was utterly horrible, and perhaps the nastiest game editor I've ever encountered. Let us never speak of it again.

Hello there. DOS editor was a huge lie and huge disappointment. Don't expect nothing from what is coming, most stretch goals are probably "hey, lets get more bucks from goofy ideas those fanboys/girls will buy anyways, like they bought the day/night cycle, and first editor" lies. especially the new "friendly editor" and "DM editor" bullshits.
Enough time wasted writing those few lines, have good dreams ppl.
