This is a topic to discuss other Kickstarter projects.

I joined Kickstarter for D:OS, and backed one other project at the time. I saw a couple mentioned after that, but wasn't actively following Kickstarter, and didn't back anything else. Now during the first half of the D:OS 2 Kickstarter I've backed another project, and kind of want to find a couple more (just because, and to contribute to The halo effect).

Of course there are the official shout outs in Kickstarter updates, and people post links to other projects in the comments there, but I figured I'd start a forum topic, as well. That should hopefully bring more attention to smaller projects, that might not otherwise make it, since larger projects tend to get good coverage elsewhere.
Having at least some kind of prototype gameplay to show is much preferred, but a well developed concept might be ok if the studio has released previous work.

Personally, I'm primarily interested in RPG and point and click adventure games, and I think that would have the most overlap with the game tastes of people in this forum, but the topic isn't restricted to specific genres of games. Strictly speaking, I guess it wouldn't have to be a game, either, as long as there is a reasonable chance multiple people here would be interested in it (weird and wacky stuff can go in the chat forums).

Bonus points if game projects have good music, and a reasonably priced soundtrack tier.

Mostly I was looking for Kickstarter projects to back (without having to put much effort into research), but sure, that's close enough.

EDIT: Some projects I've already looked at:

The Dwarves
I'm a little concerned with the 1 vs many combat, but I've got a reminder for the project, in case I don't get around to checking it out in more detail by then. A few years ago I did try a demo for a 1 vs many combat game which was pretty fun, but I don't remember why I never got the game (I think availability or price), and don't recall the name (it was on Xbox, after I finished that version of DKS).

Battle Chasers: Nightwar
JRPG based on a comic that I never heard of. I was slightly interested, enough I may have read through some of the Kickstarter page, but splitting the digital version of the original comic series up over 3 tiers turned me off.

Overfall
Looks ok, if you are into procedurally generated rogue-likes, which I am not.

Backed Overfall, I believe it was called-- the one they advertised in the last update. Looks pretty neat, and they cite D:OS as an influence. Dunno if you're a fan of roguelikes though.

I want to say that the halo effect worked for me.
I supported D:OS2 because someone posted in the forums of Pillars of Eternity, that kickstarter for D:OS2 has started.

I would have supported D:OS1, PoE and torment if had had known that the kickstarter campaign was there at that time. But I have heard about PoE and torment only after the campain was over and I knew D:OS1 only when it was released on gog. And even then it took some time before I bought it because I never heard of Larian before. After I found out that D:OS1 is such a great game I bought DD, but I never started it. People say it is a huge game and it will take a very long time to finish and there a tons of good games coming all the time. I am a slow player and I have to do other things than playing computer games as well.

Note that this post implies that PoE is a big game and it has a halo effect on the small game D:OS2. Please prove that I am wrong and spend more than 4mio$ for D:OS2! cheer

There's an HTML tag at the end of your link to The Dwarves, Raze.

Also, the combat in that isn't 1 vs. Many, but up to 4 vs. Many.

A couple of things I've backed are Underworld Ascendant, a sort of spiritual successor to Ultima Underworld, and Perception, "by the developers of Bioshock and Dead Space". I guess I'll leave anyone who's interested to look at the description rather than risk one of my vague and meandering attempts! Not sure of the relevance since both are now funded, but backers can still pledge via their own websites.

Are you only looking for projects that are still in the midst of their campaign or are you also considering those that are closed but accepting PayPal contributions?

I've said that a lot of time and I'll say it again, Battle Chasers looks GORGEOUS.
I should also back Overfall. Looks great.

While not a huge fan of the art style, I have to say that For the King is pretty intriguing. The concept is driven by an Ultima 7 board game and has some unique qualities that hearken back to ye olde days.

Thanks Stabbey, I fixed that line break from cut and pasting the URL.
Windemere, either are fine.

Ah, in that case, two additional projects that I would recommend taking a peek at:

1. Umbra - Looks like it takes some of its combat inspiration from DOS.

2. Dungeons of Aledorn - Looks great if they manage to reach their ambitious goals.

Tears of Avia
Turn based tactical RPG (square grid), focused on party composition. Skills available are based on class or equipment/items and there are skill combinations of some extent (have only taken a quick look at it). Various characters have different opinions of each other, and who you select for the party determines how they get along, and the conversations lead to different side quests.
Art style is a little bit anime and the couple combat skill effect gifs on the page are JRPG styled.
Too bad the soundtrack doesn't show up until the 40 pound tier (CAN$80, US$53).

Not much of a KS backer (only 3 projects so far, D:OS2 being one). Obviously it's been shown already that games may falter, and I'm rather a wait and see player, having been burned plenty of times when I was young and stupid on pre-orders or day 1 purchases. And that was in the good olden days, with DLC, day 0 patches, over-hype and more and more broken releases, broken promises etc. it's just too risky.

Actually, I did 4, gave a friend 10 euro for a second key he had... can't even recall what it was and it hasn't been released yet 0_o.

As such I really only back the people I trust since they've proven themselves in the past. Having said that I did also "back" Defender's Quest 2 (but not on Kickstarter). You can get in if you want, DQ is a very good tower defense game with RPG influences, still my favorite one to date for me.
