I figured we needed a thread for this news at some point. A great writer that I'm sure will make an interesting origin story or two. He also would be at home in the Hall of Echoes. Maybe his origin will be related to that. I think he'd have a lot of fun with a second undead origin. Overall, I'm stoked we have eight writers on D:OS2, up from two for D:OS1.

Avellone can be a bit verbose for some, but his ideas tend to make up for that. I'm sure whatever he comes up with will be interesting and fit in the world.

Wooooo, MCA! etc.

He's the only writer in the industry whose writing actually goes anywhere. It is connected and makes sense. It's not overly verbose purple prose that amounts to nothing in the end. Durance and Grieving Mother are an exception because they butchered them and cut out half their content. They were still professionally written though. What more can I say? Let's hope he has an even greater role beyond 1-2 origins. The narrative as a whole needs a firm grip to not wallow in itself. We don't know how skillful the other writers are however, but I'm cynical and don't have a lot of hope :p

Well some already know my position in this matter, but I hereby solemnly promise I'll do KOTOR2, as Kray is rumored to be one if not the best character he wrote... laugh

Planescape Torment was still his best game in my eyes (it's my all-time favorite), and I don't know if it's possible to top that in wonderfully melting ideas. But I'm looking forward to see his work in D:OSII.

Did you play Pillars of Eternity? The characters MCA wrote (Durance and Grieving Mother) are easily the best in the game. smile

Yup, well that's another game I find it hard to keep playing, but that seems to be a recurring element with games that CA worked on ( although I'm perfectly aware it's none of his fault :p ) !
I am not very fond of Durance who I find a bit cliché but I haven't really putting much effort into him so far. PoE probably isn't the best game I could refer to however, if indeed CA writing was cut. It would be kinda stupid to try and give myself a new, better idea of the man and start with his most butchered work =) And since Kotor2 seems to be his most beloved work, let's start there !

Kreia isn't simply the best character he wrote. She's THE best character in Star Wars and one of the best, if not THE best, character/s in gaming history. I don't say that lightly. While Planescape Torment wins the race for *overall* best writing, KotOR2 is a masterpiece only because of Kreia. Though the other characters (especially Visas) are very well written as well. Chris brings not only the professional angle in gaming, but also a philosophical edge. He has been involved in every RPG that matters and they are great partially because of his meddling. I simply can't extol his contribution to gaming enough.

I so happy to see this. Not just because of his reputation and skill, but it also reflects the ambition Larian have set for the narrative this time.

It can be rather useful in some game situations like the Source Temple in DOS. But in first place We should see stuff made by new Larian writers team in Enhanced Edition. May be there is too many people already.

On the other hand, Chris not just a writer, but also game designer.
