With unarmed combat, you should max Whirlwind and, as a lesser priority, Bleed (it takes a few levels before it starts having a significant chance to trigger). Level 1 of Rush Attack is essential, and you may want to max it.
Like any warrior build, one level of Life Leech, Regenerate and Healing will help, and maybe Death Blow (the damage from critical hits is based on dexterity, though). Same for Evade, but if you are not going to be using any ranged attacks, you may want to consider boosting it some more if you have the skill points to spare. Some people like higher levels of Life Leech.
Mana Efficiency is quite helpful, so you'll probably want it about level 5 or 6. Between that and a couple Increased Mana enchantments on armour, you shouldn't have much trouble with mana even without boosting spirit or intelligence. I almost always went with Life Line as a first choice for armour enchantments, then Increased Mana, then a resistance boost for whatever I needed the most.
You can equip a shield for the bonuses and it will remain on your character's back when fighting unarmed.
For stats, start off all vitality for the first level, or few, and then start boosting strength, as well. When you have enough hit points you can not be easily killed by a strong opponent, you can focus mostly or exclusively on strength, and may want to boost dexterity and intelligence a little bit for the resistance boost, etc. Playing a ranger who used some unarmed combat at the start of the game, I didn't boost intelligence or spirit at all, and there were only a couple places in the game where that caused a problem (with stun arrows; one instance was fixed by a change of tactics, the other by an intelligence potion and a couple extra healing potions).
Anyone help a newb with Warrior build ... ???Depending on what kind of monk you are thinking of (supernatural abilities, or not), Hide in Shadows, Charm or a summon may be worth considering (the ghost is good early for healing and remains effective throughout the game if levelled; the demon is the best summon in terms of combat, though not available until level 20).
If you Charm an opponent, you only get a fraction of the experience you would otherwise, though (depending on how much you or a summon do compared to damage opponents do while it is charmed). The extra help more than compensates for the 'lost' experience, though. Also, since summoned opponents don't give experience, in general, you don't loose anything by charming them.
