Hey there!

Its time to play DOS again, which means that it is time to think of an adequate party again!

Here is what I thought.

As there are three attributes that effect skill success rates (Str, Dex, Int), my party should consist of three people, i.e., one party member will be a Lone Wolf, and I will recruit one NPC (probably Jahan, since he is quite versatile for a starting party and I like him most.)

My party will thus consist of a fighter(-mage), a rogue(-ranger) and a mage(-support). Should I include a fourth character and drop the lone wolf idea?

If not, who should be Lone Wolf? Who should go for Glass Cannon? (Now that its incompatible) Should the lone wolf eventually be the main crafter?

Other considerations: The mage should have leadership (because he least profits from it). The fighter should have Pet Pal, because he will be the leader of the party and do the talking. I usually favoured Bully for the fighter, but it seems to have been nerfed; is it still worth it?

Magic schools: Fighter should focus on pyromancing, rogue on geomancing in order to allow for midnight oil/flare combo on first round of battle. Mage should focus on air/water and perhaps witchcraft. Put the rest in crafting.

I welcome any comments!

Probably depends on your game mode, Classic or Tactician?

I've been busy planning a four-character party, myself:

- PC1: Fighter/Knight (Defensive, Man-at-Arms)
- PC2: Priestess/Healer (Water & Earth magic, Personality skills)
- NPC1: Bairdotr, Ranger/Rogue (Bows, Marksman, Nasty Deeds)
- NPC2: Jahan, Mage (Fire & Air magic, Loremaster)

From all of those, I felt that the knight had the most "must have" talents, which meant he was the most ability point starved. Didn't even have enough points left to make him the main party leader, but could do that with the priestess. The others could make due with less talents, to later convert some to ability points.

If you want to play with only three characters, I suppose you could make the fighter your lone wolf and give him leadership. Alternatively, with only one mage and 5 magic schools available an argument could be made for making them the lone wolf instead.

It will be interesting to see how much has changed. With things like wands/bombs/special arrows, even a fighter can be very Wizard like when needed. I'll most likely end up with 2 fighters, 2 mages, but again with so much build flexibility, those fighters are a lot of things to me. Just the special arrows previously gave one a lot of options.

Haven't gotten to start playing the game yet..... What is the benefit of making a character a lone wolf or is it just to make the game harder? Also what does making a character the leader of a party do?
