Hey everyone,

So I have not played the classic version of Divinity and I am feeling paralyzed over all the choices infront of me.

I am used to playing BG/Planescape/Icewind etc. but this is a whole new system (Which is fun!) and I do not know how much is critical to have in your array. Especially since people say that it is very hard to correct you errors...

Anyway what I really wonder is: Do you need two mages for Tactician mode? I created a Mage/Rogue duo and I do like the archetypes. I was thinking of adding the ranger and warrior to my team, but now I am nervous I will need two mages? My mage is water/air which doesnt gel very well with the other one... And is ranger a bad archetype? It seems like some people really dont recommend it?

How much do the companions matter story- and or banterwise? I think the ranger seems way more cool than Johan..

Also; Telekinesis? Is it needed? I figure the warrior will have enough strength to move stuff on her own?

Sorry for long first post... I am just really happy for any feedback...

Same question here....I've finished DOS on Normal difficulty with a party of 3 mages + Madora. I started a second playthrough on Hard with a ranger, 2 mages and Madora, I completed Cysael and I really liked the ranger.

Now I'm wondering what to do, I really want to try a dual-wielded rogue and I've been thinking about (tactician mode):

- Ranger PC + Mage PC + Wolgraff rogue + Madora
- Ranger/Rogue PC + Mage PC + Jahan mage + Madora
- Ranger PC + Mage PC + Jahan mage + Wolgraff rogue

I'm still exploring the town of Cysael with a Ranger PC + Mage PC, they're level 2 so I'll have a bit of time until I have to decide....

You don't need two dedicated mages.

I use a sword and board with only man at arms
Rogue with scoundrel and 2 daggers
Archer with 1 point in scoundrel for haste and tons of special arrows to help with cc
And my mage, who mainly uses oil, (uses fire staff), but now I'm level 6 and really needing to use more buffs and cc.

But the archer really helps with the special arrows.

So you don't NEED two mages, but 2 cc is important smile

My wife and I finished the original D:OS in lone wolf hard mode with a mage and a rogue. Once you get the rogue fully up to speed and with a good dagger, they are insanely powerful in both single-target damage and crowd control. I recommend a hybrid rogue/caster with some points in air and earth. The air spell that leaves you behind enemies for a backstab is a great move.

I always start out as an archer-type when playing a rogue, because they have trouble in the first realm (no points in bows since you will be switching to daggers later).

Maybe you should check first which companion you're gonna use to decide the roles of your main heroes. There is a mage avalaible later on, so you don't need to get two at first if you prefer other playstyles. Personally, I did the other way around this time. Planning on hiring Madora and Bairdotr so I went for Wizard geo/pyro and Battlemage aero/shield, aero having good stuns for crowdcontrol.
