Does improving items with the golden grail preclude being able to do other types of blacksmithing or crafting improvements?

Seems like the holy grail doesnt work on crafted items fyi

I never noticed a significant increase in price on items i used the grail on, it was always 1-2 gold. I just sold the grail outright rather then continue to waste time with it.
