I believe the name Werner is common as a first name, isn't it? I'm not so sure about it also being common as a lastname in Germany, but I guess there must be many distant relatives of mine living there, as my father's family descends from the immigrant Germans that arrived in Brasil in the middle of the 19th century.
I do have bonds in Europe. Not in Germany, but in Italy. That's because my mother descends from Italians and her family is always keeping contact with some distant relatives that live there. Sometimes we even visit each other. In fact, nowadays German and Italian descendant people are quite common here in the region I live, the southern part of Brasil, and many people are even getting citizenships from their ancestors country of origin.
Anyway I just picked up my lastname as my nick because most people call me Werner in college, and besides, I've never been any good at choosing and creating nicknames for me.
