Well f*ck, this is an otherwise fantastic game ruined by not taking itself at all seriously...like this is seriously so much wasted potential.

To be honest I felt like I wasted my money on this, I played a bit of OS and was really put off and not getting invested by the ham fisted goofyness, then I heard about the EE and decided to just wait for that and hope for the best.

Now that it's out and (as I am asking and finding out now) the tone apparently hasn't changed, the game is a bust for me.

That said, I just read over the campaign for OS 2 on kickstarter and saw this "A more grounded and serious narrative will ensure that you’ll feel invested in the world, but rest assured that we won't forget to make you smile. We have a bigger narrative team now, meant to ensure that you'll have many interesting choices to make."

A game as otherwise fantastic as OS 1, with a grounded tone and story, plus all the new additions and refining that will be going into the game is something worth shelling out 50$ on OS 1 for despite not playing it, since the success of 1 resulted in 2. RPGs of this calibre and scale are so rare these days, so in the end the money I thought i'd wasted on OS 1 was worth something. It's just such a damn shame about OS 1.

Or you could learn to widen your horizons a tad and enjoy it for what it is. We have an overabundance of RPGs that try to "take themselves seriously" and end up as a big yawn. While it's fine if Larian wants to tighten things up a bit in the future from the whimsical tone it takes, yet for some of us DOS remains a refreshing break with its tongue in cheek satire on RPG tropes and lighthearted adventuring.

The humor is great...and such a relief from the "serious" RPGs that play like funeral dirges...;) I liked Witcher 1 better than Witcher 2 precisely because it wasn't afraid to poke fun at itself occasionally. W2 got a bit boring it was so "serious"...W3 hit the balance perfectly, imo. Geralt was "serious" but also very easy-going, too.

No matter what the tone, all RPGs are complete fiction, of course. "Serious" or no...;) It's healthy to remember that...By far the biggest complaint that most people have about both computer games and technology is that it doesn't meet their "expectations." But the people who keep their expectations to a minimum and their minds open are the ones who enjoy it all a lot more. Same is true of books & movies. Don't insist that a game take you to where you think you want to go...let it take you where it will, and hang on...;)

I'm never wrong about anything, and so if you see an error in any of my posts you will know immediately that I did not write it...;)
