I've been wanting to ask this question for a while but didn't know who/how to ask. How do small/mid size game companies do their finances. I'm an accountant and would love to work in the industry as games are a huge passion of mine, however the only companies that seem to ever have any finance/accounting jobs are really big ones, like EA or Ubisoft, however I don't really like big companies and prefer smaller companies, I think the working environment is much better in those. So why are there never any Finance/Accounting jobs advertised for small companies, is it that the turnover is very small so those jobs don't open up very often or is it that Accounting is being outsourced to outside companies. The only other possibility I can think of is that they don't advertise those jobs on their websites but do them through recruiters, which seems unlikely to me. If Larian does indeed outsource accounting I would love to know what company they work with.
Hope someone responds.
Thanks.

Thanks for Responding Raze. That job's been out there for a while now, I think I spotted it first on LinkedIn, but I might've just been the Larian website, can't remember. I guess it goes to show that Larian does have an internal Finance team and isn't outsourcing all of it or maybe any of it, its just that the turnover is really low, which is probably more or less true for other smaller to mid size companies. Its also quite possible that some companies may use Recruiters for those jobs and so you don't see them posted that much.
Anyways I was just curious about the process. My dream job would be working for a game company about the size of Larian one day, so I'll just keep looking at different company job boards periodically and hope I find something that fits my skills one day.

Sorry; the Facebook post was relatively new (last week), so I assumed the position was, as well.

I would emphasize also, like you said, that the turnover is really low. You don't need 10 accountants when you have 70 people in your company.
I worked for Ubisoft for 10 years before Larian and yes, obviously, a company with 8000 people with countless studios and making above 1 billion each year, needs a lot of them. So is EA or any other big company.
For small companies, you need only one I would guess and for even smaller companies (I've a few friends working on their own with few people) it's outsourced.
So I guess, sadly, you really need to be "lucky" to find a job like this because it's so rare.
But don't lose hope mate, you'll find one some day ^_^
