So I've gotten in to find that Leandra has broken the portal etc., etc. I go to the northern leg of the loop created by the path where some boulders are blocking my way to head north. Supposedly, according to this

there is a tiny switch to hit and send me on my way. I cannot for the life of me see it. Does something have to happen to make it appear? Is there a minimum perception score required to be able to see it?

No I don't think you need perception. If my memory serves me well, it's simply "there" (like the button in Esmeradla cave, although this one is hidden behind ham).

Just check the minimap (or the map), to guess where the entrance should be. The button is nearby.

I've gone as far as to zoom in as far as I can on the exact boulder shown in the picture on that link, even paying attention to the patterns on the rock while scouring my cursor over the highlighted spot where it is supposed to be. I know it says it's small, but damn, could it really be small enough to miss it even doing that?

I don't think it's on this rock (just checked the guide you linked to).

Check on the left (supposing you have the default camera angle) of the entrance.

I got it. I was looking too closely for my own good. What I did is I went to YouTube to watch a walk through of that section. I saw that the video showed the switch more on the corner of that same rock. Thinking that perhaps they randomly move it, I pulled back and sure enough, it's on that rock to the left of the one where it was in the other two examples.
