There you go Raze! That is EXACTLY the response I expected from you. Condescending and somehow trying to make your paying customers feel WE are the unreasonable ones for wanting this $60 piece of crap game to actually be playable.

Also, good job once again avoiding my question. So again Raze, HOW LONG DO YOU THINK IS ACCEPTABLE FOR PAYING CUSTOMERS TO WAIT TO BE ABLE TO PLAY THIS BUGGY GAME?

Look dawg,.....I for one completely understand that some of you folks are doing what you can to help our dilemma;however, you have to see this directly from our perception. Not only did DOS have the potential to be THE best RPG I've ever played, but it has also come to me in the most crucial crux's in my entire life!!!!! (I overcame something terrible with its aid), and completely did a 180°turn around, so you have to realize that when I had to STOP playing completely due to this bug(game-ending) that it literally felt as if an appendage had been ripped from my torso!!! The reason that I consistently contacted you after sending my save data is because I desperately needed to be engulfed again into the vast worlds of Rivellon for without the aid of this world, my life is threatened by doom and despair and thrust into desolation!!!!! Seriously I'm not going to make divinity my scapegoat but I would love for my wife and I to play again. Riddle me this??? If the inventory problem has been fixed and the waypoint teleportation problem is directly related to that...than why don't they put out a patch like say patch 1.05.5??? to appease those that have them problems, so that WE can PLAY right NOW?????

Thanks Raze,
for your time & patience

If it were as easy to release a patch on PS4 as Steam, there could maybe be a hotfix, or if not an official update, possibly a beta branch made available. On consoles the patch procedure is much more involved, and must go through Focus as well as Sony/Microsoft.

You do realize I have NO clue what a hot fix,a beta branch, or really even what Steam is at all.I am amongst one of the most computer illiterate and tech unsavvy people you will ever come across...Besides of course my mother...Ha!!!

I think he's basically saying its easier for Larian to just send one patch for PS4 every few months so that they can squeeze as many minor fixes and content updates into each patch as possible instead of trying to fix the major game ending bugs as soon as humanly possible. I'm sure it's all about money. I don't see any other reason they wouldn't send these critical fixes to Focus/Sony as soon as they are ready instead of making us wait for every minor bug they are working on to be fixed.

Steam is the largest digital game distributor on PC. Developers have direct access to update their games through Steam, so only need to be concerned with their own QA and release procedures.

A hotfix is basically a small patch, generally released relatively quickly to address specific issues. With limited changes compared to the previous release, they can often get away with very focused testing, and skip a lot of the normal release procedure (depending on the nature of the fix, and how likely it is to affect other things).

In addition to the released version of the game, which everyone automatically updates to, Steam also supports different beta branches of the game (essentially updates that have not undergone the full testing procedure). These are optional (can be either public or private) and can be used to give access to new features or balancing changes, etc, before they are made available to everyone. Generally this is to get feedback, stress test new features and collect bug reports from people who don't mind that the changes aren't finished and may not be stable, etc. Rarely, beta branches can also be used to make certain bug fixes available to those who run into them, before they are fully tested and officially released.

Part of the reasoning behind releasing larger updates is efficiency. The full test procedure is fairly involved, especially on consoles, so if possible it is better to include multiple changes and fixes.
Another issue is the risk of introducing new problems. Though generally rare, any update can at least potentially cause new problems (more so with new features or balancing changes, etc, though).
Focus and Sony aren't just waiting for Larian to tell them when to update. Focus has their own release standards and procedures, and makes their own assessment on the severity of issues and the necessity and timing of patches.
