Traditionally, an Imp is a small demon, like the cute little devils you see in cartoons about Hell. Only they aren't always cute. In fact, the ones in Doom were quite vicious.

Imps have a speech impediment due in part to the absence of an epiglottis. Is that what you are referring to, Feng?

I found something strange on an almost related topic. In the Imp Castle in the Dark Forest, in a couple of places on the automap there were green crosses meaning someone is close to me. There was noone there. This is the only place this happened to me, what's the deal. I don't need to worry about it now, I'm in the Wastelands but it bugged me for a while a few days back.
