Starting this game with a friend and we are trying to make a good team. I was going to either go rogue or archer....

My question is, which one would be more beneficial for a beginner and could someone help me with a starting build?

Thanks!

I'd go Archer Dex/Speed build. A bow archer is much more beginner friendly and will wreck with some of the end game skills. You could also respec later to crossbows or daggers if that's what you want.

Here is a Zen archer build :
- use crossbow for skills and magic arrows
- use 1 skillpoint non-int spells (heal, summons, rain, oil, ...) take all schools except fire.
- use 1 skilpoint rogue - 1st level rogue skills are most OP skill in the game - take them. Haste, Winged feet, Shadow walk

Attribute: As long as you dont use default crossbow attack you dont need dex neither perception. Rise dex only for wepon requirement keep it as low as possible. Pump speed mainly. Later 1-2 points to Cons.

Zen archery skill:
Take notice that bonus crit from crossbow skill is used only for deafult attack not for skills or magic arrow so you dont need to pump crossbow skill either. Trick is weapon skills use the higher crossbow dmg attribute but costs same as skills with bow. Same with magic arrows. Archer skills and magic arrows always hit (not so man-at-arms skills) Buy all attack dmg skill books asap.
Wrap it - you are archer with low dex and no weapon skill but you hit like a truck.

Magic arrows note:
Make a craft whore, Jahan is great candidate. Pump his craft skill asap let him stay at home. Call him only when need craft magic arrows by him. Poison, poison cload, slow arows are virtually unlimited. Other arrows are plenty. Take talent picking arrows.
