I feel claustrophobic during the night and in dungeons. I have already turned the light radius / darkness up to 50.

How do I mod the light radius / darkness above 50?

I don't think that is possible. Can you increase the gamma to lighten indoor and underground areas, without making the screen too bright outdoors during the day?

I can and that does help, but whenever I Alt+Tab (which I often need to do) it resets the Gamma back to default. Afterwards no amount of messing with the settings will change the Gamma. I have to physically quit the game and start it again to get the Gamma settings to work again. Which lasts until I need to Alt+Tab.

Any ideas?

Try the Windows 8 Performance "Patch" (works in Win 7 and 10, as well), and see if that makes a difference when Alt-Tabbing.

In the configuration program, try switching to Software mode, rather than Direct3D.

You can also try using the disk version of the configuration program to set the game to run in Direct Draw mode. Rename or move the existing configtool.exe and NlsEng.dll files in the install folder, and extract the disk versions from this zip file.


You might be able to get the game to run in a window, though it is a little finicky, and people have reported mixed results.

Is it possible to switch this game to window mode?
