I know that the FAQ says that it will become clear through the story as we play but I have played the game and don't quite know exactly what the "original sin" is in relation to the story and the universe.

I need this to explain to my wife why I want to play D:OS II. She said she does not like that I want to play a game that has Original Sin in its title. I tried to explain that it has to do with the games universe and the Source but couldn't really put it all together to help her understand it.

Could someone please let me know why they use Original Sin in the title, Please?

You need to explain to your wife you're playing video games?

I think it would be best if you hadn't to justify your hobbies, but I don't know your situation so here it comes:

The overarching story (which is not what is most interesting about the writing) is about a goddess and an evil closed in a divine box. Some agent of the devil whispered curiosity in the ears of the goddess, and so she opened "pandora box" and set the devil free. This is, as far as I understood, the "original sin". It's more or less a reference to Adam and Eve story I guess, but it's very loose.

The overarching story is really muted in this game however. You could easily get rid of the goddess stuff without changing much of the game practical story (I even think it would improve the game). One thing that is more central is Soul-forging, but I don't know if you want to have to explain that one either xD

What's the problem between your wife and the original sin by the way? She doesn't like it when your priest talks about it, if ever you're a believer? (if you're not this is ridiculous)

Thanks for the info. I will relay that to her.

She is worried I will slip back into some bad habits and what not (dealing with some unsavory addiction issues from the past) and she just doesn't want me to fall off the wagon when things have been going so well. I actually stopped playing all my games because it was affecting me in ways we both didn't like. Things are better now but she is just apprehensive that I might slip and she doesn't want to see that happen.

Thank you again for explaining that. Hopefully I will be able to play D:OS 2 when it comes out on early access in Sept. :)

Oh OK then ^^

I'm not under the impression your wife understands very well what would be addictive factors in gaming, and perhaps it would be wise for you to explain exactly what game pattern are addictive to you. That she be stuck by the pair of word "original sin" is really odd to me, unless that was your kind of addiction?

I would have thought what usually drives addiction, on top of personal problem of course but that's you and not the games, could be stuff like endless MMOs (no end in sight, you have to grind the new raids to prepare for the incoming raids all the time), competitive gaming (FPS or Strategy games with a ladder), loot machines (like diablo) that resemble gambling machines.
She might want to learn the game genres, and not be fixated on their titles (which tell nothing much usually).
