Hi all,

I love the concept of combining spells to create more powerful effects and I very much enjoyed doing so in D:OS1.....until the crowd control skills started rolling in.

It didn't take long before combat devolved into cc + direct damage and most encounters became trivial. Combining spells no longer seemed worth it. Not only would I be spending action points that I could instead spend on cc, I was putting my melee characters in danger. At this point, the combat lost its fun and became a chore. I'm hoping that this isn't the case with D:OS2

For those that have been actively following the sequel's development, do you know if Larian is doing something that would address this?

Thanks

Hey there, EA player here, not sure if you are too or not.

But, been playing a lot, almost 15 hours into the EA and I can say that CC is still a big thing, however it feels like it doesn't last nearly as long and it is easier to break out of for you and the enemy, meaning it is still key to fights, but won't be a CC lock and bombs away type of scenario.

There is still much balancing they are going to be doing during the EA and before release in general.

Nope. It's a big problem. My level 2 mage was thrown in prison. In order to break out, he took on 4 level 4 Magisters. At this point, I'd noticed that the combination of rain & lightning was effective, but I underestimated how effective...

I cast rain, covered the ground with water and used my lightning staff to attack one who didn't have magical armour. He was stunned. This also electrified the entire pool, but the ones with magical armour were protected.

Then I retreated.

All of the ones who weren't stunned advanced through the electrified pool, taking damage with each step. Finally, their magical armour was depleted, and the stun effect kicked in.

The stun effect wore off each turn, but all I had to do was use my electric staff again to electrify the water and stun them again. Repeat until done.

Seems like CC will be the end all. You know those crocodiles at the beginning of game? They can cast fear, hits all your characters, last 3 turns. While feared you can be feared again resetting the fear status to 3 turns. By turn 5, all my characters were dead. Had to reload until they didn't cast fear.

If that's what enemies can do, seems like player CC will be just as boring.
