[SPOILERS maybe] [Warning: long post (sorry)]
(sorry if a thread for this exists: its not pinned)
First loved my first playthrough, lasted longer than I expected which was great.
Few things that in my opinion could be improved:
-waypoint shines, they seemed lacking (unless I missed them somehow) especially on the east side of the island which made for a lot of walking back and forth.
-ability skills. In DOS (EE) there was a need to put points into things like geomancer e.t.c. since you couldn't cast spells otherwise, in DOS 2 i didn't feel much need or reward in putting points into these skills after the first since I could cast all the spells in that category and they didn't improve in effectiveness that much if I put points in.
-3 memory spells. I never used any of these, admittedly this is the starter area and later on when you have more memory you might use them, but I didn't feel like they were 3 times better than the other spells: so i'd keep the other 3 instead. I spec quite a bit into memory and had 1 char with 8 slots and one with 7, didnt use any 3 memory spells; although at this point the limiting factor was becoming the fact that it most of them require source points to use, that I barely had so why take up the slots? I like the idea of more powerful spells and the level system in place however maybe have the memory slot cost equal to the level, including then some 2 slot spells along with the 3 slot spells to fill the void.
-hailstrike. This seemed OP. In DOS (EE) it was a master skill and in my opinion was weak, however to start with it: it outclasses the other spells imo. The one downside is that it can often dmg your teammates; however it deals soo much more dmg than the other spells and reliably disables (freeze) enemies it hits. I would say either the lvl, AP cost, dmg, or freeze chance needs to be toned down (in lvl and AP case by an increase in them..).
-touchy one: resurrection scrolls. After the final battle half my party was dead and I had no res scrolls, and couldn't find anyone selling. I know they were kinda spamming in DOS which meant people didn't value keeping people alive in combat. However it sucked that i would have needed to reload given the battle difficulty.
I have 2 thoughts for this: either add res scrolls or change existing ones so that they can only be used out combat (ritual spell maybe?), however (if in game later) the res spell can be used in combat providing reason to get it; or outside combat characters may be healed back to life or auto res?
-talents: a lot of talents didn't feel necessary or like they added a lot. More talents would be nice
-attributes for rangers didn't feel as good for me, i basically just put it all into finesse: other stats didn't seem relavent if i just fired my bow all the time. Maybe another attribute type?
-Action points. I think an attribute or something to increase your action points like in DOS would be nice, i liked having a mage that could be a god every turn because i stated them in speed.
-a confirm box for leveling up like in DOS
-for staff mages, you can only fire these once a turn so you needed spells to cast all the time, a way to decrease cooldowns on spells like in DOS would be nice (maybe a separate attribute, wisdom? decreases for all classes)
-customising characters, pre-scripted characters are amazing however they restrict you a bit in the types of characters you can play (ranger, fighter...) either the ability to stat them out when meeting or have an option when starting a game for all custom character.

Things I loved in the game as they were:
-The new armour system: much easier to understand than the dmg reduction in DOS and i love the fact that status effects cant hit you until its removed, removes my rain stun combo :( but its for the better, also it felt great having a mage stand up to all kinds of disabling attacks.
-Memory was a cool idea. I liked having the extra chocie as to whether i wanted stronger spells or more to distinguish dmg dealing or control mages.
-having 2 attribute points when leveling. It gave a more freedom and choice and in particular made it feel like you didn't need to just max out one stat.
