So originally I thought Necromancy was just going to be Witchcraft with a new coat of paint.

Yet as I found out that are vastly different trees.

Witchcraft mostly focuses on buffs and debuffs. It had offensive spells, but those were tertiary fallbacks.

While Necromancy focuses on self-healing often while doing damage.

I actually LOVE Witchcraft, it was my favorite tree and so I am biased and kind of vastly prefer it over Necromancy.

Yet what do you prefer? I realize Witchcraft was unpopular so likely people more then prefer Necromancy.

I like Necromancy.

I dug witchcraft in D:OS too, I hope the additional skill trees they talked about have some of the witchcraft flavor. I'm a sucker for banishing summons, so I really hope that comes back in some fashion.

My favorite D:OS1 char was a scarlet shadowblade, combining skills like Soul Sap, Death Punch and Daggers Drawn.

Rogues are strong in D:OS2 in their own right, but none of the Necromancy skills have added anything useful to the above fantasy, so we will see...

We only see the low level necromancy, so it is too early to tell how good it will be. I like the necromancy so far, but I want more stuff to do that are actually necromancer tropes. We have all these corpses around, necromancers should be able to use them for a variety of things.

Reanimate into:

* Skeleton fighter (we already have skeleton skins, so just change them to those and have them fight with the same stats/abilities they did in life, but can use in death)

* Mindless Ghoul(chance to infect someone, if they die while infected they come back as a mindless ghoul)

* Ghost (rip out their souls and turn them to specters)

Sounds like a candidate for the Summoning tree

That's actually a nifty idea, the Summoning tree not just being about summoning things to fight but to also control and banish other summoned creatures. I'm a big fan of magic that controls other magic, so that's a cool idea.

witch craft was better. charm, soul sap, death punch, lower resistance were all good.

but i don't see why we can't have both the more skills the more options. didn't they do 2 of stretch goals to get 2 more trees? yet i don't see many new skills?

The two new trees are Summoning and Polymorph.

They aren't in the game yet (and even if summoning was it would be useless).

But neither of them seem like they would touch what Witchcraft left behind.
