Greetings everyone.

I would firstly like to congratulate the team on the successful initiation of Divinity Original Sin II into the Early Access portion of Steam. It is certainly something I've been looking forward to for quite some time now.

That said, I purchased the game very shortly after hearing about it's arrival to EA and after having done some research on what to expect with the new title. The 4 Player prospect really excited me and I knew that this would turn into something I would greatly enjoy with several friends of mine, as I had with Sin I in the past.

I would like to first state that I fully am aware that this is still an EA game, and I know that there is more to come, but one thing I have to ask outright, as it very well may determine how much use and joy I get out of this game.

Is it going to be possible, by release or potentially after a patch post-release, that I will be able to create a game for a single friend and myself (2 player game) and that he and I can both create 2 characters each for us to play, so that he has 2 custom characters and I have 2 custom characters? What I read gave the impression that this would be the case, but having played the game for a spell, it seems to be entirely not the case.

I would just like to confirm this one way or the other before I decide how to proceed with my excitement for this otherwise great looking title. It seems to me that, since I could create both characters in the original game (Single Player), that it wouldn't be overly difficult to allow for a Single Player to create 2, 3, or even 4 characters himself, or to allow 2 players to create 2 characters each and so on and so forth.

Thanks for taking the time to read my little topic here, I look forward to your replies :)

Not to start another topic. I have EA but haven't been able to get to it... and I have some questions if someone doesn't mind:

1. I would like to play 3 player coop. Will it be reasonable to just play this as 3 player without the need of a 4th? Or can AI play a 4th player, I really doubt the last, but I ask anyway.

2. Are the maps any larger? To me a bigger map would give a bit more sense of world adventure.

3. Playing coop, when buying things in D:OS if you both wanted to deal with the same NPC you only could do that one at a time and had to wait, which isn't ideal for coop. Has this been improved so everyone can do the buy/sell/inv manage at the same time?

4. Any improvements to Inventory Management? Overall UI?

Thanks.

You can play with a party of three but it will be hard (in classic mode). If you want to play with a party of four the host will control two characters, one created during character creation and a companion the host gathered along the way.

Not really, DOS2 is still a hub-based game. So the one map in the EA version is comparable to the map of Cyseal.

Yes, but please see the respective threads and information Larian handed out.

Varwulf;
If the second person joins during character creation, you each customize your own character.
It was stated during the Kickstarter that the possibility to customize companions (to some extent) would be looked at.

Thanks for the response, Raze. I am a little sorry to hear this, as it feels like an incredibly missed opportunity for someone who wants a single player, party based experience (i.e, Icewind Dale) or for someone who only has one or two friends they really want to play with. I know Sin isn't trying to mimic classic Infinity Engine games entirely but the similarities are there, and this game does feel like a perfect example of a game that should have that sort of functionality.

This topic brings up a question that may be a workaround for the OP.

With the eventual local co-op patch, you would in theory be creating a minimum of two characters. If you are allowed to mix and match multiplayer, (2 local at one of and 2 local at another) you would be able to create your full custom party.

All of this is built on many ifs that we do not have confirmation for yet, so take that as you will.

That being I know Sven gave his reasoning for not creating more characters than you have players. It was something to the effect of wanting players to focus on their character and origin for each play through.

I do appreciate this insight, though I am curious about this "local co-op" patch it almost sounds like I would need two controllers on my end and my friend would need two on his end, one for each character? Surely I am misunderstanding this, assuming this would even come about, that is.

It just shocks me that this wasn't considered a possible desire for the fan base, I know I am but one voice, but having the option to create your entire party has pretty much been a staple for games similar to this in the past. Not judging, just stating my piece.

Thanks for the reply just the same smile

D:OS Enhanced Edition only supports local split screen co-op when using 2 controllers. Initially it started off supporting keyboard + controller, but there were issues with mixing the UIs in certain circumstances, and that had to be dropped. Those issues may or may not be fixable or avoidable when updating the UI and controller support for D:OS 2.

Not only was this not not considered, this was asked about repeatedly during the Kickstarter. There will be some customization for the companions.

For the author of this post: There is a way right now where both you and your friend can create 2 custom characters each! See this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyDZlMZfpQs
You would simple do this technique with 2 profiles each!
