I am very sad that most of you accept utter crap as an RPG. It really insults Divinity. Toss a game at you where you can level and choose a few skills and you think it's an RPG...gg. I am sad too... for other reasons. Tell me, what's the difference between BG2 and ToEE? Both use D&D system, both have the SAME bloody combat...

uh..think again. ToEE is a true turn-based combat system. BG is not.

And no, I don't go by any other name anywhere else on forums related to RPG games. All games are linear in the end, considering you're eventually playing towards an End Game scenario. Sure got your panties in a bunch quick eh Winter? haha What a fricking troll....

I wasn't trolling for anything. I was merely stating an opinion. You are free to disagree, I really don't care.

There is a difference between a "Storydriven" RPG and a "Non-linear" RPG.
Storydriven RPGs encompass the Final Fantasies (good until ten and ten-two ), infinity engine games (BG2, etc) and even Divine Divinity.
Non-linear RPGs encompass many Muds, some MMORPGs and (from what I have seen) the Wizardry games.
To say that one is the "true" RPG really does a disservice to the other genre. ROLE PLAYING GAMES force you to take a role, even if that role is plotted out in advance. One can make the argument that some "non-linear" RPGs arent true RPGs because you can play the game as yourself, and not as a different type of character.
I am personally a fan of console-type Storydriven RPGs, simply because I dont have the self-motivation to really do everything without guidance

Well, you seem to be here just to cause an argument. That's all I'm gonna say on the matter anyway......

uh..think again. ToEE is a true turn-based combat system. BG is not. BG IS turnbased. It has 6 second turns. The number of attacks per round shows your attacks per 6 secs. Another troll... *sigh*... and I thought Dorito would be a good addition to this forum

Look I'm not trolling, and I will let the matter drop after this. All I'm saying is there is a difference between a combat system built for turn based, and one built for pausing. I will end it here so as not to troll or continue an argument. Also, I've been in many other threads without starting arguments. I wasn't starting an argument to begin with, I stated an opinion and someone felt the need to cry about it. The End.
EDIT: Ok, not quite the end. So we have differing opinions on the definition of RPG, I can't imagine anything sillier to argue about for more than a few posts:) Let's move on. Sorry to have upset anyone.

Oh? Are you implying that your post was a troll attempt? I find it strange how the RPG genre attracts so many pseudo-intellectuals, and how these pseudo-intellectuals seem to think that the "RPG" label somehow equates to quality. Wake up call: it's just the name of the genre, just like "adventure" or "action" or "sports", not some sort of quality guarantee. Wait a minute. You call ToEE a perfect RPG? Bwahahaha! Then I don't think we have anything else to say to each other, between ToEE's bugs, laughable rule implementation, more bugs, hit-and-miss voiceacting, and the utter absence of any coherent story. fluffy_ferret said: KOTOR is RPG/Action. It has a lot of RPG - the D&D system, interacting with ppl, multiple ways of solving quests, good and light side etc. Simply put the RPG element is pretty strong but it's true that it's a game "dumbed" down and made for a broader market, which doesn't necessarily make it any worse a game. I agree that the rules in KotOR are heavily simplified -- there's even an "auto level-up" button, for peanut's sake! Yet, people who migrate from the FPS genre seem to have a lot of trouble with this bare-boned d20. ( Not D&D! Come now, if you want to adhere to the "elite hardcore RPGer" mindset, might as well get your facts straight.) It's a smart marketing plan; if it were any more complicated in rules, Bioware'd have a smaller sales. Most people do agree, though, that KotOR is a lot of fun to play, even for the "hardcore RPGer" -- and isn't that what games are for, fun? I wouldn't call it RPG/action so much as RPG/adventure -- the action is no more or less prevalent than in any other "true" RPGs, if we're discussing BG2 and DD here. The NPC interactions faaaar exceed that of DD.

If you had any comprehension of the english language or the ability to read and understand it, you would have seen that I said that the perfect RPG would be a mix of ToEE's COMBAT and the rest Divinity. Good job. I said nothing of its voices, bugs or story. And no, I wasn't trolling, but you sure bite on anything. Perhaps you may want to read a statement before going off and commenting on something that wasn't even said, thereby making yourself look like a total fool.

Whoops. I posted that without reading the comments on the third page, so I didn't see the "let matter drop" post. However... You had to go a prove that you are an unintelligent imbecile. Hohoho, resorting to insults, now, are we? By the way, that's rather redundant. An imbecile is not intelligent by definition; "unintelligent imbecile" is the equivalent of saying "cold ice." Here, take Creative Insult 101 course, why don't you? Perhaps you may want to read a statement before going off and commenting on something that wasn't even said, thereby making yourself look like a total fool. I'll grant you, I was skimming the posts rather quickly. Buuut, tell me, if misunderstanding a post makes me look like a "total fool", then what does wanton insult-slinging make you look like?
