I went into a battle knowing the enemies and where they were located in the scenario. I specifically put my party members into sneak mode, and placed my archer/inquisitor high above where they could attack with the 20% high ground bonus. I snuck my fighter and rogue below and behind the would-be victims for the upcoming fight. Then, I tossed a razzle dazzle grenade to initiate the fight. However, when the fight started, all my party members automatically ran into some formation, making my entire tactical setup moot. What's the point of sneaking around and placing my party members where I want them if they automatically move around when combat begins?

I understand the issue, but the game registers it that anybody within the 'combat zone' radius automatically enters the fight even if they are sneaking or not and get put into their combat idles... maybe Larian could accommodate an entry into battle via sneaking.

I do want them to enter the fight. But, I just don't get why they would all move around automatically upon entering the fight. Can't they just stay where I specifically placed them?

I don't think this happens if you unlink them all before combat

Wait. That's not true. I know for a fact I had them all unlinked when I entered combat. Because, I had to sneak them all around the battlefield individually.

Disconnect the chains, position your team, and engage.

I did this. Once engaged, they all run around in different directions, sometimes through fire oddly.
