I really hope in the full game we will see entire set of unique armor -- like the Braccus Rex set. And when you combine everything it gives a bonus or triggers an event. Even if it doesn't, just being able to collect a set gives me sense of accomplishment that I brought these scattered items together again.

I never cared for the sets in diablo 2. It was kind of neat that they were there, but I was far more interested in mish-mashing my own set of gear out of unique and rare items.

I especially hate sets in diablo 3, mostly because they are the most powerful option for every class. I really think they detract from the ability to customize a character or be creative with them. It's a very inlined and hand-holding way to say "this is the best gear, use it"

of course, sets don't have to be the best gear, in which case I wouldn't mind. I'd still rather more resources went into unique pieces of armor/weapons than making full sets, though.

I'd go beyond that: beside some basic itemization for common equipment, I'd put in JUST unique items.

I swear we could probably list pages of issues (more or less solvable with a certain amount of workarounds) related to randomized itemization, ranging from balance to economy, while the only downside of handcrafted and hand-placed loot is, you know, the initial effort of creating it.

Party control in Baldur's Gate 3 is a complete mess that begs to be addressed. SAY NO TO THE TOILET CHAIN

I know where you're coming from when you talk about Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 (having played many hours myself). But when I express that I hope they include more armor sets or unique items in general -- I want to emphasize that it doesn't need to be the end all be all items of the game. Hell, I wouldn't care if it didn't have any stats -- the treasure hunting aspect is what I like about it.
