Just picked up this game a few days ago.

I read the starter tutorial but i'm still having problems.

Basically i've got to the third lv in the crypt (with the tombs) but i can just not take all the skeltons/boss ones on.

I mean literally in a few hits i just go down like monica on bill. The zombie guy that helps you i had to let go because i had to go into town to get potions, even with him though he was almost dead (maybe 20-25% health left on him) and the boss skeltons would take him down.

I'm a lv 4 warrior, with skills trained in repair and stun, 1point i haven't put in something because i can't decide what i want to put it in lol.

Anyone have any tips?
I already did all the available quest up to this point....

Is there some newb armor i can get or something? the only equipment i have are some cheap gloves and sandles, then a helmet that i found+used most of my money to identify so i could wear it.

using a axe that does 9-15dmg or so.

BTW about how long does this game take to beat? doing subquest and everything? picked it up to be a time killer til sacred comes out (that's how i found out about this game, though i've heard of divine divinty before, it just didn't really interest me at the time i heard of it) but i'm getting so interested in it now and i heard someone say 100hrs??? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" /> goodbye free time.

thats hilarius!! you can get a decent peice of armor in goerges shop. you have to steel it. i beleive its chaine armor. sorry about the mispelled words, but im drunk and dont feel like checking. you shouldnt have wasted those skill points on those skills yet. you should have invested in fighting or magic skills. you can fix that with:http://www.kiya1.de/images/versuch.html#ddie

if you are a warrior, try using your special skill.

It sounds like you did not loot very much in town. There are some leggings in the house to the north, where you find the magic mirror.
Meat and bread restore hit points, and can be used as a cheaper alternative for potions for awhile (there is a limit to how frequently you can eat, though).
A bow and hit-and-run tactics can help, especially at the start.
You can leave Aleroth and level up a bit on the orcs outside, though I would not go too far south.

add damage (lighting, poison) to a weapon.

also, invest in agility. it helps you avoid being hit.

Ah ok, yea i hit lv 5 and then they showed up.
Using lightning now, still a tad hard, going through so many potions/bread.

Hmm, have 3 skill points to use now, what would help me out here the most?

thinking of:
lightning damage
Summon skelton

then...i dunno for the other, prolly Axe expertise since that's what weapon i'm using and i have quite a few axe's in my invetory i can't use yet.

Stun is fairly useful, though doesn't kick in a lot at lower levels. After the catacombs, axes become less common, and swords more available.

i suggest that you take some levels of Trap. then, when you find a big creature that is hard to kill when you get close to him, just give him the scorpion. and sit back and watch your enemie die. also, when you are in the wilderness. run around and get alot of cratures chasing you, then just let out 2-5 scorpions. and watch the scoprions get XP for you. this also works well with the skill fade from sight, because once you've sent out the scorpions, your enemies still chase you. but if you go invisible then your enemies will stop chasing you and go for you scorpions just like you want.

i had only boss thing that killed my scorpion...that thunder lizard who protects the Dragon Rider ( heart of dragon quest) only boss that i noticed killing my scorp. I only noticed cuz i let one loose ran out and waited. when the lightning stoppes i assumed he was dead, then i walked in and got zapped...

never bother putting skill points on axe it is poor. a cool but ruining to the game way of kicking bum early on is to use the duplication cheat on the spell book you get from Kistidanilus in the ars magicana when he leaves his house. If you get elemental bolt you can reep havoc (if you have loads of mana). this gets you up levels early on but spoils it because you cheated. I did this cheat after i had completed it on hard and normal first.

i thought gods don't cheat....on a more serious note....when you first start the game with a new character..use the save and reload trick before you enter the houses in aleroth...it can give you a few spellbooks before ever reachin level 2....

I've gotten fairly more into the game now.

Hit lv 10 now and doing the quest to get into the castle.
Got the hang of it after a while, thank god for learning to heal myself.

Can't decide if i want to go half warrior/mage or warrior/ranger....hmm.

Also, i'm kind of stuck.

doing the Poison quest for the farmland guy and i went to the dr. elrath's house, i found the key to unlock the front door behind his house, but when i go in and talk to him he throws me out and the door is then locked back.

I read a walkthrough for this part and it said that the quest is broken but a patch fixes it? I have the newest patch available and it still does this.

do i have to take lockpicking 2 to get futher or is there someway around it?

The door to Elrath's house should be open the first time you enter, and gets locked after he throws you out.

You can download the inventory files to get another key;
Lost Items - guide and directory of inventory files

or get past the door by;
- FIX for the Missing Catacombs Portal (file swapping)

- Teleporting Anywhere, via hex editor

- or see if you can stand around the north west corner of the house and toss a teleporter stone into the front room (due to a graphics glitch, you can sometimes see into buildings this way, and talk to NPCs, etc). One person was able to toss a teleporter stone through the window, and get in that way.

BTW, there is no need to rush to get into the castle.
