My friend is in AU and I am in the US.. we have been trying to play together, but there is random Disconnects regardless of who is hosting. Is there anything we can do to resolve it?

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs before starting the game? (anti-virus, anything network related [even voice chat, at least long enough to see if that makes a difference], etc)

I'm not sure there is much locally that would contribute to disconnects...

If you are using a wifi connection, you could try wired, if available.

Try connecting directly to the modem, or if the system is connected to a switch, try connecting to the router (if cable lengths and the physical configuration allows).

Have you tried playing at different times of the day, to see if network load may be part of the problem?

Have either of you tried playing with anyone else?

We only had Discord open at the time. He shut his AVG off and I turned off my Avast. We checked to make sure that was not what was blocking it.

Both of us are plugged into our modems ^_^

as for playing with others, no we have not.. none of our other friends have the game >.< it's just so weird it's fine for about an hour then starts the random drops.

Did Discord stay connected? VOIP is pretty tolerant of network issues, so if it also dropped, one system may be briefly losing the internet connection.

If you reboot when the game disconnects and start the game again, do you get another period of it being fine, or does it continue with the frequent disconnects?
If rebooting helps, that would imply a local game/system issue (memory leak, or something).
One person in D:OS reported frequent disconnects if they had their laptop's power saving options set to disable wifi after a period of inactivity.

Oh we didn't try a reset and play again. and yes Discord was on the whole time. We decided to wait since it's alpha and no one else seems to be having this problem >.<

Ok, so that's less annoying, anyway.

Maybe next time it happens, just have one person restart; doing that a couple times, switching who restarts, could help determine if the problem is just occurring on one system, or a combination of both.
