There's several weapon categories, and for each weapon category there are about 5 areas you can improve in; speed,accuracy,damage,critical...and a few others I forget now. But it costs 1 skill point to improve any one of these areas, and you only get 1 skill point per level. So when you gain a level you get to improve ONE area of ONE weapon type by a SMALL amount. That's seems pretty ridiculous to me.

So what do you suggest? Besides, do you know the game's level cap? You would probably agree that in the demo you've fought low-level monsters. By the end of the demo, you were level 4, and it's one map. So if you get to level 100, for example... Plus you get random generated, 24/7 open Battlegrounds .

I think the boosts that each of these five sub-skills provide are quite large. So while you can't fine tune your training, you can have nicely sized jumps in each category.
Also, I wonder what the skill point cap for each skill is?

In good old DD, at every 5th level you are entitled to 2 skill points. I don't think you can get to the 5th level in demo.
DD and BD shares one common trait - there's no skill tree to say off, and hence every skill is essential. You will never need to'waste' a skill point on any 'useless' filler skills, unlike in Diablo II. (D2 1.10 sort of solves the problem).
It is not quite 'ridiculous', actually, considering that enchanted weapons usually come with tonnes of bonuses. If the weaponskills are too powerful, then powerful weapons + powerful weaponskills = unbalanced character. Also, it's not 'one' weapon, but one 'type' of weapon, hence I believe that SLASHING represents sword-type, which includes daggers, hunter knives, short swords / long swords. CRUSHING most likely represents mace. I have no idea for PIERCING, though. So it is not actually that bad.
I checked out the full skill tree and noted that Warriors are the only ones who can improve their 'whirlwind' attacks. If the Weapon Specialist skills apply to the Whirlwind skills, then whew, the warrior class is indeed a force to reckon with.
I will try a warrior/warrior combo so that I can explore the warrior class more in depth.
Oh Lorvidale, never shall the sun shines on thee again...

Slashing: swords, axes, knives, etc. Crushing: maces, morning stars, flails, frying pans, etc. Piercing: spears, pikes, tridents, etc. (I did find one in the demo.) I checked out the full skill tree and noted that Warriors are the only ones who can improve their 'whirlwind' attacks. If the Weapon Specialist skills apply to the Whirlwind skills, then whew, the warrior class is indeed a force to reckon with. Remember, there are no classes. A wizard can Whirlwind just as effectively as a warrior. But more to the point, you'll want to combine Whirlwind Attack with Weapon Expertise.

Also, I wonder what the skill point cap for each skill is? Reading the reviews => it depends on the teachers, some teach the standard levels others the advanced levels - but as I don't have that many skill pts - or don't know when I meet the advanced teacher: I'd be tempted to keep my skill pts stored. It will be at least 5 IMO, due to Div tradition... I know, I had my first level up before killing Fergus, used my points up... only to find out afterwards that I couldn't use his weapon, because I had no skill pt left for "identify". I'm sure, I won't come into trouble with a lvl cap as I won't reach it Piercing => not to forget bows/arrows

I forgot, I also found a Bone Wand class weapon. Does spiritual damage, slightly more than the short sword. I never found the other weapon class.

Also, crossbows do crushing damage... There's a seperate skillpath for crossbows. You get 2 skillpoints every five levels. Oh and don't worry: the "small" change you make to a certain path really does make a difference.
