Not a book review thread, just a "what are you reading at the moment?" thing.

I just finished God Emperor of Dune and am left with mixed feelings. On one hand, I could marvel at the philosophical complexities presented by Leto II and excerpts from the Stolen Journals. On the other hand, I am close to blink and mutter, "Wtf is this?" in regard to all the psychobabbles and odd and odder inter-character relationships. (Hwi Noree makes me want to... do terrible things. Like slap her.) I couldn't empathize with the characters very much, and at times found Leto a tad... pretentious. Oddly enough, the ending of this book struck me as poignant, even if it's what's supposed to happen.

But damn it, I'll finish this series if it kills me. *goes off to start Heretics of Dune*

Reaper Man, that would be. Have you also read Mort, another Death book? Yup. Terry Pratchett's Discworld is positively divine.

thank you

Never read any of them! But because of several members always saying they're top notch stuff, I've decided to give them a try. Looked at Reaper Man today, looked quite funny, will probably go get those 3 tommorrow, and my new 80GB hardrive...

Mort? no.. What about Guards, Guards! (or however the '!' 's go)

Guards! Guards! is quite good, too. Well, I think most of the Watch, Witches, and Death books are excellent, so I'm a tad biased here.

Lol, from reading amazon.com 's first chapter bit of Guards! Guards! It sounds quite good, but so do all the others! If only I could get all of them! (according to them, they have 25 out of 29 available, for 183$!)

I can recommend Night Watch. It's an very intelligent (well, in the sense of Pratchett) book about revolution. With interesting ideas and thoughts.

I am reading the novels of a young french writer named Nicolas Rey :
"Treize minutes" ; "Mémoire courte" ; "Un début prometteur".
I don't think that these novels have been translated in english.
I don't think either that this will interest somebody here but it was just to take part in the thread.

Just finished The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents and am about to start Reaper Man.

The Discworld books do have an order, but there are several story arcs. There's Rincewind, The Watch, Death, The Wyrd Sisters, and probably others. I think you're alright if you read those arcs in order.

what are the books about?

It could interest very few people here because most of the members do not use to read books in french.

It's about the life of a young man, love, sex, engagement, doubts, difficulties, sense or nonsense of his life, the lost of the childhood and he has a very personnal style of writing.
