Valid, but why not give reasons to the consumable item. The more you use something the more run down it's going to be (just like durability with armor and weapons).
What do you do with hammer, you hit, so it just gets worse and worse, but you can sustain the hammer with care and improve your skills to affect the items performance (as well as your own). If we have this kind of logic, then it's acceptable.
If something does not make any sense. Hammer that logic into us (not with a helping hand of course) in a way it does. Divinity world has logic and rules it follows, guide us through it and the player will see reason (not outright but at least it becomes sort of acceptable, such as magic).
