Should you be able to respec companions when they join you?

That akward feeling that when playing with a hydro/air red prince and you meet Lohse who is a hydro/air wizard.

I gets worse when I look up the other companions and see I don't have a warrior in my party.

Not in the mood for cheese?
That excuse has more holes than a slice this fine Gorgombert!

Personally, I think as soon as you ask them to join the party it should go to a character creation screen for that character and you build it from the ground up. That way you can tailor your party the way you want. As is I actually want to play Lohse as my ranger because im interested in ranger style play and that characters origins. But if i do this then I will get sebille starting as a ranger and not something i need, like a healer. Allowing to choose the character build either at the beginning of the game or when you meet them would lend a bit more freedom in player choice.

On the one hand, starting stats help give your companions some character, especially for a character like Ibn, who's clearly a roguish type. But given you can already start any of the companions as any class, that's not a huge deal. So sending companions to character creation once you recruit them would probably work well. Slightly jarring, maybe, but the benefits of freedom would make up for the weirdness of changing the character's visual looks on the spot.

It should just prompt you to change their stats or leave them how they are. I think we need to be able to customize their stats as companions often have wasted stats and are already screwed up for any good builds by the time you find them.

I agree with this. As soon as you recruit a companion, they should get an almost-complete character creation scheme where you can change everything except their name, race, and gender.

Just to be a bit nit-picky, changing stats would be a bit annoying if you couldn't also change skills. One solution to this could be that companions don't start with any skills, but they have some money (150 or so) to buy some. But I think it'd be better just to have the character creation screen and let the player choose 3 skills there.
