This is a game where both you and enemies take turns spreading surfaces everywhere and where if you take a 1 damage hit, you create a 5 meter radius blood puddle containing more blood than exists in a human body.

Larian: "Hey, I have an idea, let's add in skills which turn all surfaces in the area into harmful ones!"
Larian 2: "Huh, you mean the player can target a certain area and turn it into harmful surface?"
Larian: "No, no no! I mean it turns ALL surfaces around harmful! What could go wrong?!"

These skills are awful because they affect all the surfaces, making it super-easy to spread fire or poison to your allies.

Meanwhile, the enemies with their much higher magical armor and much higher HP ignore and shrug off the scratch damage from the surfaces.

These skills suck. Ditch them.

This! I can't tell you how many times even in starting battles, my entire party was nearly wiped out 'cos of this.

That and plus, the game's reliance on combos(very powerful) can lead to unintended explosions that kill almost everyone, even if you win the battle.

Either ditch them or greatly reduce the amount of surface area like a small circle that surrounds them! And for goodness sake, please stop that "puddle" from spreading.

I think even the Blood Rain spell needs to be greatly reduced, in terms of area effect. The game shouldn't reduce such precise turning of the camera or cursor selection, in order to prevent stunning/freezing your own party!

I think Ignite should function like Explode did in DOS1 (If Explode doesn't actually make it into the full game). Deal fire damage around you and burning enemies with no Marmour while dealing fire damage to yourself

Can combo that with Phoenix Dive

I think Contamination and Ignition are fine in terms of their effect. Yeah they are scattershot and risky but not every skill needs to be fireball and fireball Jr.

The issue is more of a risk versus reward. It does pitiful damage to enemies and poses a risk to your allies.

Their benefit is that they hit ALL enemies within a large radius AND can combo off of extra surfaces for extra damage.

One issue with Contamination is it turns smoke into poison gas.
