sorry but i just cant stand playing this game if you can help me find a way to play it that doesn't kill me form the inside i will be thankful

there are many reasons, one of then the difficulty which i find to be nothing but an annoyance

another is experience being a limited resource because i love grinding to counter the annoying difficulty(seriously people who like difficulty should stop playing games and go play real life cause that is where difficulty belongs) perhaps difficulty would be the wrong name cause i cleared dark souls 1 to 3 and bloodborne and i ddn't felt this annoyed, i think being forced to explore and do the disconected immersion breaking quests to get more exp when i want to proceed on the main history is what makes it annoying

and another reason is because i find balance to be a flaw when i comes to rpgs, i believe one of the part of rpgs is to be rewarded by good choices and punished by bad ones, mimaxing and doing your homework is part of the fun of a rpg and balancing everything so it doesn't matter what you chose ruins this aspect of rpgs

but the main reason i cant get into this game its that the story is just bad i mean the base concept is good but it just doesn't seems to get anywhere, maybe its because i haven't gone too far into the game but the story lacks a sense of greatness that you find in most rpgs, they make the sourcery to be something uberpowerfull but everyone can use it and its not even that great

is there something like a walkthrough of all quests and the order to do then so i can get that junk out of the way and get to a decent level before making the main quest

Because you think it's too difficult? It was tweaked a bit upwards from the first patch. Further tweaks are likely, although I can't say for certain where the final difficulty will end up.

There will be no infinite XP. It will remain limited. That is how the game is fundamentally designed and it won't change. Also, if you think the quests are just an annoyance getting in the way of fighting monsters, then this is probably not the right kind of game for you.

This comment makes no sense. "balance is a flaw"? That's a dumb thing to say. All games need some kind of balance. A game where you have 900,000 HP, enemies do 3 damage and you can kill them all in one hit is not fun. Nor is a game where enemies have 900,000 HP, you do 3 damage and you can be killed in one hit. You might not notice the existence of balance contributing to your enjoyment of a game, but that does not mean that it isn't there.

It is not a bad idea for games to avoid having a single "I win" button skill which is so good it makes all others lousy.

It sounds like you're still in the prison. That's the very first part of the first act of the game. The plot for that is to escape first the prison and then the island. It is admittedly not the most compelling plot.

yes i can obviously tell that much what a waste of money, i wonder if maybe the gamemaster mode and the summoner class will change it, if people can make better quests or i can make my own to grind then things might get different

First of all:
This is an Alpha!

Balance is still of and this is most likely not the final state of the game. The skill and attribute system just got a huge rework. Even more a reason why the balance is of. Mages for example feel at the moment in general pretty weak in my opinion. Same goes for 2-handed.

Second:
This will never be a grind fest, because there are no respawns. But there are many possibilities to exploit mechanics to cheese the stuff, if you so desire. Also the hard part is the part before the fort, after the fort and attaining some stuff and a variety of skills, the game easens up. Perhaps to much.

Third:
There is also the Explorer mode, if you tried on Classic so far. That mode should be easier.

Well... There is a major development that is rather significant... That I can't spoil, but suffice it to say there is a lot riding on you.

Though I honestly have NO idea what you mean.

Then again I guess it is because I've played RPGs with more of a slow boil... so "Most" is a bit of an odd statement to me.

Heck Star Ocean 2 and 3 didn't really get to the main plot until after the halfway point. Legend of Grimrock 2 didn't reveal the main plot until 90% into the game.

It is a misdirection... a plot element but it isn't the plot itself. Though being on an island where sourcerers are imprisoned kind of would increase the sourcerer population.

But to my knowledge... No... they don't make Sourcery out to be something uberpowerful... so much that it is something incredibly dangerous that attracts the voidwoken and corruption.

Something you definitely see.

---

I will say... Dennis as a villain is really lame.

"MWA HA HA!!! I just killed someone for a minor mistake showing how EVIL I am!"

Me: "Your lucky your bodyguards look cool or else I'd write you off as a total joke"

The game just doesn't sound like it is for you, at all. I don't see it getting any more enjoyable for you and I only see you coming back to complain more before the game even is released and afterwards I can only imagine it'll get worse.

I think you should take the financial loss of what...26 dollars that it took to get into the alpha/beta builds of the game and just move on to something more for you, like Final Fantasy or something where you CAN grind until the whole game is pointless. Because I don't think we really need to tell you that what you want will never, ever happen in the history of this game or Larian Studios, it just isn't the game they make and one person not just complaining, but asking for them to change the whole game's foundation from the ground up, is gut crushingly hilarious.

You took a chance with a game you thought you might enjoy and you turned out to be wrong, it happens to all of us at one point or another. So move on or come back after full release and see if you can get that enjoyment you wanted out of it then.

can you at least point me out to a game that is for me them?

creating a character, making choices and having then affect the world or that define your character this is what i see as the point of an rpg

i liked skyrim, oblivion, morrowind, dark souls 123, bloodborne and now jwj divinity original sin 2

i have dragon dogma but the lack of a lock-on like dark souls and the lack of a fast travel system just made it hard for me to play which is sad cause i liked the spells of the sorcerer class maybe i will try again later

i have games like the witcher 3 and lords of the fallen but i hate them for the lack of character creation

i was thiking of maybe two worlds 2 i dont know why its so hard to find good games today

You've mentioned some very good points what an rpg should be about - only to follow that with , in my opinion, some very bad games that are labled as "rpg's".

Divinity Original Sin is actually a very good rpg - both the first one and the second one.

Dark Souls and Bloodborn are good games but not what I would lable as a RPG.
Elderscroll games are also something that I wouldn't count as a "true" RPG. ( people will problably hate me for saying that )

You seem to be more interested into action-rpgs that have little focus on story and character developement and mostly focus on combat/gameplay mechanics.

Maybe you should try Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 4?

The first mistake anyone can make when critiquing a game is to dictate what a game "should be about", at least in terms of "All games should have this type of plotline".

RPGs don't have to be "big". They can survive with minimalist plots or ones about tiny insignificant lives. They DO, however, have to make you care in some way.

Gaia a Search for Eden, as an example, wasn't about saving the world or stopping some great evil (In fact the game punished you for thinking of the game in those terms). Yet it sucked you in through its grand narrative.

---

And yes Divinity Original Sin 2 has a HUUUUUUUUUGE problem with making you care for the most of the opening.

It relies on gamer mentality to carry it... a thought that "Hey, I don't deserve to be in jail!" even though you have no reason to believe that.

The desire to destroy Dennis... even though all she did as a nondescript villain was kill some official who did something we don't really care about.

With the guards not really harming us... and the people in the prison being far more of an obstacle.

Then... when you solve the problem you are once again without any motivation and are searching the island purely out of gamer mentality.

Hey Remember Chrono Trigger? Remember the part of the game where Crono had absolutely nothing to do or any goals? No? That is right, you ALWAYS had some sort of motivation...

Didn't that game have a jail section as well? Notice how you had an immediate desire to escape due to the whole trial scene?

For all we know... we murdered a bunch of people and got thrown in jail :P We don't know.

You can lock on in Dragons Dogma, its not working the same as in Dark Souls though. There is a fast travel system, but in the beginning its not too usefull because there are only a few places you can port to. The further you get the more points you get.

I think the smartest thing would be to continue playing Dragons Dogma.
Why i recommend this? You already have it and imo its better then all the games you liked (skyrim, oblivion, morrowind, dark souls 123, bloodborne). And gets a lot better after a certain point. It has a NG+ mechanic similar to Dark Souls (Enemys dont get stronger though, but there is a hard mode for that). And once you think you the main game is to lame (because you are overleveled) you start the DLC and have an even better time with the DLC then you had with the main game.

If you really dont like Dragons Dogma, here are some recommendations (those are one i have played myself):
- The Witcher 3:
I know that you hate the lack of Character Creation, but the Story is worth playing through imo.

- Divinity 2 Developers Cut:
Third Person Action-RPG made by Larian Studios. The Story is great, the fighting system is very simple, but really fun. The Character creation is there, but very limited in terms of body customization.

- Dragon Age origins or Dragon Age Inquisition:
Both are RPGs with real-time party based combat with a good story and many decisions which heavily effect the main game.

- Mass Effect 1-3:
I dont think i have to say much about them, just a great series.

Some great suggestions. Divinity 2 (not to be confused with Divinity Original Sin 2, which seems to be a thing) is a really fun game and will have a similar "feel" to Oblivion since it's broadly the same engine that's being used.

I also agree with the recent Fallouts: in spite of the amount of squabbling about whether FO3 or NV is better and whether FO4 is a worthy successor, all are really good games. Buggy as hell though, so it's definitely worth playing the PC versions for access to unofficial patches and command console access when things get really stuck.

I share the reservations about The Witcher 3 with having to play pre-made characters, but I found I quickly got past that and had a really good time with it. In spite of the hype, I'd still rate it as one of the best games I've played.

Also the Mass Effects (though seriously, quit playing ME3 when you encounter Marauder Shields: the ending truly is as bad as everyone says) and Dragon Ages. They're not without their flaws, but I'm glad I played (slight reservations about DA2: it's not as bad as many people say, but it does feel annoyingly unfinished and gimmicky a lot of the time).

I'd persist with DOS2 though: as much as I found the isometric, turn-based text-heavy retro style a bit much to start with, it soon grew on me. I'm still a rubbish tactician but I still found the games quite absorbing. It was also a handy stepping stone to playing the original Divinity which I'm glad to have finally got around to, though I did occasionally find it heavy going since the Oblivion-style "actually being there" style of gameplay is more to my taste overall.

And I think I'll stay away from the "what's a 'true' RPG" argument since it always generates more heat than light.

What everyone else said basically. You are saying "if they can't let me make a character from scratch it isn't an rpg!", to put it simply.

So suggestions would be...any game that isn't based around an already established character, how you could buy something like the Witcher and still think that is beyond me as you would have instantly known that you were to play as Geralt and only Geralt (and Ciri at some points).

The world has plenty of amazing games, like the Witcher, but you just don't like the styles, so instead of saying anything that you don't like isn't an RPG how about go buy those RPGs and discover something you might actually enjoy.

Dragons Dogma. Dragon Age Origins/2/Inquisition, Morrowwind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Pillars of Eternity is excellent, there is plenty of options. It is also clear that you didn't give Dragons Dogma probably more than 15 minutes of your time, because there is locking and there is fast travel, you have to give a game time.

there is a mistake here yes i do like the elder scroll series and the dark souls series but its not because of the action but because of the rpg elements

neither the soul series nor the elder scroll series are perfect rpgs but both of them are really good at role playing

for example in skyrim "do you wanna be a evil cultist that saps life from his victims in hopes of getting eternal life" ok then just go to the next enchanting table and enchant a dagger with absorb health, do you wanna be a master craftsman that makes his life by selling exceptional equipment?, level you alchemy, smiting and enchanting to a 100 you will be able to create items worth a entire merchants inventory, do you wanna a conjurer that forges pacts with dark being from a different plane? ok then level you conjuration skill to a 100 and you get a pair of dremora lords

dark souls does it on a more subtle way its give you the tools and lets your imagination go wild with the preexisting lore giving you few yet very meaningful choices that affect npc lives and the fate of the land itself which is what i mean by sense of greatness

its doesn't matter if the game is on first person or third person because it allows me to be whatever i want to be, granted its not like vampire the masquerade where you can solve the entire game while pretty much avoiding any sort of fighting and solving everything with money and mind control but its still a pretty good rpg

playing a inquisitive exploring character that like to interfere with literal everyone and everything he sees is not quite what i'm searching for, repeatable quests and respawing monster are essentially a substitute for the quests the game failed to create like experimenting on dead bodies to learn more about necromancy they are there so you aren't coerced into playing a different role

of course since this seems to be one of the main aspects of the series i don't expect it to change at best i can hope that game-master mode will allow me to create campaigns were i will be able to role-play as i want

there is just one thing i can absolutely not forgive and that is why in heavens did they make necromancy the way they did? i mean what part of raising the dead translates as mosquito swarms if anything its blood magic or maybe vampire magic but not necromancy

Partially it is because summons don't appear that early in the game.

Well ok... I fully expect master summoner to have a level 1 summon skill...

But the last summon skill we had was a broken fire skill that took 3 memory and 1 sp

RPG = Role Playing Game

In a game like the Witcher you play still a role, the role of the witcher himself. Honestly most JRPGs don't offer the possibility to create your own hero. The hero is always predefined. There might be less freedom, in what you want to do and how you can achieve it. But I don't think, it makes them less of a RPG, they are just no open world RPG.

Summons don't appear, because the summoner class is not included, same goes for polymorph.

Summon fire elemental was not really broken, it was just a place holder. But it did not use source points. It was the only Tier 2 skill (3 memories), without sp cost at that time.

It is likely that other skills will still get summons.

The Master Summoner class just is all about da summons.

i can role-play in persona 4 which is jrpg and has predefined character which also happens to have grey hair but that is because the character doesn't have a backstory

its really hard to play as geralt when you so many wizards around doing impressively overpowered stuff like reviving the dead teleporting and looking back in time

if anything i wish Ciri was the main character at least she does have a impressive power, i would surely chose everything related to that witch coven

i tried making a sorcerer with geralt it ddn't quite work, maybe i will try playing again and not get jealous of the enemy mages summoning ice golens and etc...

I don't think you are going to like Witcher 3 no matter what you do, you want something that Geralt can never be and you will only get more upset that he can't be the more you try to make him that way.

Really though I feel like you are asking for the "perfect rpg" that just doesn't exist, you want the best of every series put into one and as great as that would be, it just doesn't exist and probably never will.
