It was a toss up between Diablo 2 and NWN Gold. I went for Diablo 2 as I feel that it flows better. It's an action game, sure, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Additionally, those are the only two I've played on that list.

are they both good? does D2's graphics get in the way? *seeing how they're a bit low compared to other modern games, tho I played D2 demo, fun, never seen NWN demo...

hmm, can't download it.

if i can't get d2 I'll get NWN. thanks all!

Hmmm...couldn't make a choice. I've played'em all and they're all pretty good (except for Medieval:Total War, I didn't care for it too much). Spellforce was killer and the Morrowind expansions were good, especially Bloodmoon. Diablo 2 is, of course, a decent game, but I prefer a little more depth. NWN is alright, but I'd choose any of the others (except M:TW) over it. Decisions...decisions.

I haven't played Sacred yet, as its not out where I'm at, but it looks good.

NWN has great graphics and it sticks to AD&D 3 rules. Diablo is hack and slash. NWN graphics are better, chars are 3d, you can rotate and zOOm . But. if you wanna have some hack'n'slash, nothing is better than Diablo
Ohh, it is shame I have deleted all my chars from Diablo, including lvl 60 sorc

And Lews, if I were you I would wait till Sacred, release is at the end of this month.

NWN: Blocky, blocky, blocky tilesets. Every city will look the same; every dungeon will look the same; every cave/mine will look the same; every inn will look the same. Not exactly eyecandy. Its D&D (not AD&D) 3E rule implementation is questionable, and flawed in places, but this shouldn't be a problem unless you're a hardcore PnP D&D player. The NWN official campaign is atrocious in its story, writing, NPC AI, and repetitive nature of gather-four-pieces-of-artifact chapters. Bit reminescent of D2, but with much better attention to detail and more original quests. The SoU official campaign is rather dull. HotU is another story, though. Its official campaign is actually quite good -- many light-years ahead of the NWN and SoU OCs -- and certain improvements/additional contents make a big difference. (Robes, skyboxes, epic levels, bigger party, etc.)

D2: Well, if that's your cup of tea, sure, why not? As an action game with RPG elements, it does what it's supposed to do.

IWD: The first one (plus HoW and Trials of the Luremaster) is at least worthwhile, I think -- if you're looking for a fun dungeon crawl. It's no clickfest like D2 (a bonus for me, of course); it requires more tactics and micromanagement. It, naturally, has much better RPG elements all around. Superior graphics, story, writing, dialogue, and atmosphere as far as I'm concerned (and lovely music). IWD2 is not half as good, unless you like puzzles and hordes of enemies that overwhelm you by sheer number, and a badly balanced loot distribution.

Dont let anyone fool you if your into charecter development NWN is second to none in this category.Graphics are very well done i havent a clue why someone would use the word blocky to describe them.True the single player campaign didnt actually start getting good till SOU, but then again this game was tailored for multiplayer and modding purpouses. The spell affects are amazing although some of the summons could use alittle work.I suppose i can agree that alot of the locations are similar but the number of different monsters in the game more then make up for this.

If the NWN series keeps improving there storylines like they have in the last 2 expansions, then i would expect them to be some of the best rpg,s ever made.

Lews, trust me as much fun as these games are, you get more game for your buck with NWN, I have been playing different modules and persistant worlds for about 1.5 years and still going strong without loosing interest and that's about 4-5 hours a night.

If you don't believe me PM Luc, as she is playing it at the moment, which is prob why we don't see that much of her.

Also it is the only game that will continue and continue as Bioware is now thinking of making new modules (made by Bioware's Rob Bartel and David Gaider) available as a DD (Digital Download) so yeah go for NWN you will love it, you can trust an old guy

Hah! ther's a module available for NWN called "sex & the single adventurer" I gather you will be able to find what you want there, including the other half

I would say go for IWD gold. Both games are immense fun and have the right proportions of action/RPG for me. Also if you don't play D2 online then you'll get bored of the SP mode fairly quickly.
And anyone who thinks D2 is a simple clickfest should try teleporting through the durance of hate lvl 2 on hell mode with a 700hp sorc. I'm sick of reading that type if gibberish. The game requires skill, cunning and tactics, especially if you're duelling....

Oh and SP WC3 is immense fun and will make you pull your hair out at times! There is an orc campaign for download now that is sort of RPG/action oriented. It comes with the latest patch I believe, you can just log onto Bnet.

I'm off to play Sacred myself.

I actually liked IWD *very much* , but nevertheless I eventually got simply bored - because there isn't much interactuion except combat. Even now, I still think : What a wonderful game could this have been if they had added more means of interaction ! That high amount of combat resulted in me putting Blizzard's Action-RPG and IWD into the same box (into the same category : combat-based RPGs).

All a matter of taste. I voted for D2. Never finished NWN. Mea, I got stuck in that place where you have to go back in time by placing a time crystal on a sun dial. It wouldn't work. What do I need to do? I got the crystal from that NPC in the garden.

According to this walkthrough, you should:

[Spolier, Highlight to select= [color:"37485A"] When your done with your quests head to the ruins, and through to the creator race ruins.
This is a confusing place, and first head to the garden and talk to a wierd lady. She wants you to head back in time to plant a tree for her, and in doing so you can also weaken the guardians which are undefeatable at this point, allowing you to eventually get the second word of power.

Head to the sun dial and go back in time. Find your way to the garden and plant the tree, before leaving equip the amulet of translation(you should have gotten it from a dead body by now) and talk to the slaves, if your unable to persuade them to make a weakness to the
golems, find the named slave and he will give you a ring that will make the slaves cooperate with you easier.[/color]]

You can check if you have the patch(es), NWN was far from bugless.
Hope it helps.
