I just played through the game with a main Ifan two-hander, Sebille as a Ranger with some Scoundrel skills, Red Prince as a tank with some Geomancer skills and Lohse as a water and air mage.

However I feel that I have missed out on a number of abilities and gameplay mechanics, as I had no one doing daggers, fire or necromancy magic. The final game is also supposed to have summoning on top of that.

How should one build a party in order to have access to everything? Are we supposed to spread every character over many roles instead of specializing?

It's your choice, what you need and want to use. You are supposed to play it the way you want it to play.

There's quite a variety of styles just located in stat builds + weapon use that makes this pretty impractical.

Finesse + two-handed = Spear
Finesse + One-handed/dual-wielding = Dagger(s)
Finesse + Ranged = Bow/Crossbow
Intelligence + One-handed/dual-wielding = Wands
Intelligence + two-handed = staff
Strength + one-handed/dual-wielding = one-handed weapons
Strength + two-handed = two-handed weapons

And that's just off the top of my head. So already it's impossible to experience every configuration, because each one-handed represents weapon+shield, weapon+weapon, and weapon+nothing, so that's 13 different ways to wield a weapon and max out the stat, and that's saying nothing of builds where you go even further and mix/match.

Now, if you're just talking about using skills, it IS possible to take advantage of all the skills. A dagger user can take advantage of everything in scoundrel and warfare, though warfare better serves the two-hander user, etc. An intelligence character can make use of every spell, as they scale off intelligence.

Essentially, what I'd suggest instead is you find what works for yourself. Instead of trying to do everything in one playthrough, do what seems best in your first playthrough, then try something different and see how that works instead. I've beaten the game 3 times now and each time my party had a different composition and general tactic, and each had their own advantages.

Well let me deal with the person above me with this little tidbit.

Take a Spear and use both Marshal and Scoundrel skills. (Mind you... The Spear REALLY needs to be updated to function with Scoundrels)

I don't really consider every weapon type to be all that essential to your learning experience.

HECK why are you taking points in two handed with a staff if your a pure mage? Stop!

Ah, I didn't mean to suggest that you're putting points into those styles, just that there's that many ways to combine a weapon based on one of those primary stats with different levels of "hand use".

I'm also of the opinion that the only character who should be using a staff is an inquisitor type, but that's neither here nor there.

I think the point behind the game was to give you more options than you choose. There are more than 4 weapon styles, more than four skill schools, more than 4 classes and soon to be more than 4 races.
