What are the thoughts on the introduction of a Bard class that uses instruments as a 2-handed weapon. All attacks are AE (Area Effect). They are constant and "pulse" each turn unless the Bard changes songs.

I seem to recall there was going to be a bard skill tree but unfortunately it was outvoted in favour of the (much less interesting IMHO) summoning and metamorphosis skills. frown

I'm interested in finding a cRPG to play a Bard. I was thinking about doing it in Baldur's Gate but I read it's an awful choice in that game. Does anyone know a good cRPG that supports Bard class?

Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2 have reasonably fun bard classes to play. They are pretty boring in a lot of games though, often sitting there as buff/debuff bots. They're best when they mix musical magic (mostly buffs and debuffs, but other active stuff, some minor healing), rogue-skills, lore, and charisma to make a versatile character. Not too many games quite do that combo though.

It BG, bard isn't really an awful choice though there are better classes (mage/thief or fighter/mage), but you can certainly beat either BG or BG2 as a bard if you want to.

In BG1, wands are extremely powerful (that is, they are stupidly overpowered - I soloed BG1 as a level 1 mage due to the availability of wands) and bards can use them. In BG2, the Blade kit is not bad and you have spells on top of that.

Yeah I wish Bard would have won, but eh I do find that I like inquisitor a lot. If by some chance Larian checks this know that there are those of us that really do want a bard class!

What's most disappointing is that Bard lost to both: "the thing devs wanted to make so they told everyone to vote on that" and "the thing that was already in the game but is now grouped up as a separate skill".

Bard winning though would have been a HUGE slap in the face though.

Because Bard is the SECOND class Larian outright told people to vote for.

I am glad it didn't win on that merit.

If anything it deserved to lose BECAUSE Larian kept pushing it... trying to invalidate the voting process.

I don't think Larian was telling people to vote for the Bard class, from memory there was one employee who really liked the bard class and they were just trolling him in the videos.

You could count that as reverse psychology, but I don't think that was the intention.

I still want to see a Bard class. It's never too late to do the right thing. =)

For me?
