My characters are level 8 and I want to clear out some of the smaller quests and things before the boss fight.
One thing that I haven't been able to finish or resolve is exploration of the ruins. I've been inside and dealt with the thirsty well and things but not sure I did everything I'm supposed to do. Even more puzzling is exploration of the ruins from the outside. I've managed to get into some of the areas by teleporting onto walls, etc. But there's one walled-off area that has a covered pit. You can hear the cries of the "librarian" coming from it, saying that he needs help because he's burning. I've tried making it rain and throwing water balloons but that doesn't help. I need to get inside of this walled off area.
Any tips?

It sounds like you are talking about the gargoyle maze. The entrance is on the north side close to the ladder down to the beach where the dragon is.
Enter the maze and pass through to area with librarian (you can use teleport to pass the locked gates but this is considered cheating by the gargoyles). You'll have a brief fight with 4 fiery undead next to the librarian who is on a pedestal not in a pit.
You can cure him by casting blood rain (or using blood from flesh sacrifice) and then blessing it.

Oddly killing his fire works different than killing the fire of the pigs.

I was under the impression that you can't teleport through the locked gates. Or maybe I just assumed you can't. Instead, I've been teleporting onto ledges and walls and trying to climb down, etc.
Cool, I'll give it a try, thanks!

Oddly killing his fire works different than killing the fire of the pigs. The pigs didn't seem very aggressive or much of a problem, so I just ignored them. Though I may go back and kill them just for the extra XP.

I've actually never tried killing the pigs. I do know that each pig grants you 600 exp when you cure them with bless, and then it spawns a zombie who gives you an amount of further exp that I don't recall.

Yeah, it's worth curing the pigs. Also you get another trader as part of the bargain. The zombie spawn is unreliable though, he only appeared in one of my play-throughs.

The issue with teleport: If you can see it, you can teleport there. Same goes for skills tactical retreat and Phoenix dive. Really fun to move around, mainly in fights, but kind of makes such mazes a bit to easy, if everything is open.
Not sure if there is even a difference in reward, if you 'cheat' or not.

Great, I'll bless them!
The game has starting becoming unstable for me, crashing every once in a while. Hopefully I'll finish it before it gets too bad.

It is worth trying engaging them in conversation with one character and blessing them twice with another.
Sometimes one bless doesn't work and you don't get the zombie.
