So I did a runthrough and made a 4 mage party.

I allocated armaments as follows:

2 x Dual wand
2 x Wand and shield (for a bit of tankiness).

Most stats were distributed amongst Int, Mem and Wit, with slightly more focus on Int on the dual wielders.

Also some stat points needed to be allocated to strength and finesse and constitution to use other armour.

Skillpoints were distributed amongst all the schools except warfare. A couple of them I gave a point in huntsman so they could get first aid and tactical retreat.

All characters had adrenaline and haste at the end, and a big arsenal of spells.

Anyway, I made it from start to end using nothing but magic damage and spells.

I didnt quite max out my gear and level by the end as I left a couple of small things undone.

Thoughts:

Admittedly it was a bit harder than a regular balanced party on some fights, but others were easier. You have a little more CC but with the excellent CC that fighters get, this isnt a huge advantage.

Fossil Strike/Impalement are brilliant for their slowing effect and ability to create huge fires to keep stripping magic armour.

Magic damage on spells scales reasonably well too, but it is not really comparable to the joy of having a focussed archer or knight.

Armour of frost and fortify on a few characters is really important to keep regenerating armour on the longer fights.

It would be great to continue this challenge when the game is released fully.
