Well, gang, I've encounted another aggravation. I reckon it could be hard to tell how much I'm enjoying the game if I just post the probs, but that's because I'm playing, otherwise.
I've equipped my awesome Dragon Shield and Nobleman's Sword. Now, whenever I encounter a critter, the screen freezes. I've cleared out the cache in Run/Dynamic to no avail.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

If you unequip the sword and/or shield, does the problem remain? Is there a certain range you can get within (ie ok on mini-map, but within sight on screen is a problem)? Does it matter which type of critter?

Thanks, Raze.
I equipped the Dragon Shield as soon as got one I really liked. I've also been using the Singing Blade because it is one fine sword. Since it is a two-handed weapon, the Shield is greyed out.
I've just tried three different scenarios with the following results:
1 - Continuing as usual, with Singing Blade and Dragon Shield, can kill at will as have been doing.
2 - Start with above combo and kill a corpse (I'm in the graveyard area and that's what I get. LOL ) I change to Nobleman's Sword and Dragon Shield. When I encounter the next corpse I freeze and have to hard boot. It's a rather limited area, so the corpse just popped up in front of me. I didn't even look at the mini-map. I froze before I could kill him.
3 - I tried to load a saved game with the Dragon Shield and Nobleman's Sword already equipped, and it loaded a little over half-way and the computer froze.
That was enough hard boots for me today, so hope it helps.
I'm doing just fine with the Singing Blade so far, but sure had hoped to utilize that nifty, keen and kewl shield and sword combination.

When you are in the mood to tolerate a few more re-boots; Try unequipping the shield, then change swords and equip the shield again. Maybe try a different one handed sword. Try waiting until you are out of the graveyard, and find a different opponent.
What are the stats on the sword / shield? Maybe there is a passive skill causing a problem, such as Know Creature, or something? Maybe not, though, with a freeze during loading.

Good morning!
Started in on your suggestions this fine day, and four hard boots later, am reporting in.
1 - Checked the stats of the two items, nothing like "Know Creature", but the sword does have Stun (5). Maybe it's stunning me instead of the foe? heh
2 - Took off the shield and equipped just the sword. No worries. Killed 3 corpses and having no probs. Decided to go for the gusto and equip the shield as well. Killed one corpse and elatedly saved the game. Ooops... Premature. Froze at the next corpse and hard boot.
3 - Tried to load the above saved game just in case. Nope. Froze half-way thru loading ->> another hard boot.
4 - Took off shield, equipped the sword and just killed in the graveyard. I had reached 25 slayings without trouble. The last Dark Corpse dropped a Priestly Large Shield of Massive Walls. I wanted to find out if the Dragon Shield was the ONLY one that wouldn't play nicely with the Nobleman's Sword. I saved the game, then equipped the Priestly Shield. AHA!!!! Next corpse brought the familiar frozen screen and subsequent hard boot
Sooooooooooooooo..... This sword figures I don't need no stinkin' shield when it's around, I guess....
Next on the agenda, after taking a break from this reboot excitement is to reload an earlier game and retrieve a different holy sword and see how it cooperates. Actually, I'd decided to do that anyway, because with Stun (5) **AND** Frost (2) this Noblemans' Sword is simply tooooooooooooooo much! I had steered clear of any weapons with Frost on them, and now understand why so many said to do just that. Way too easy!
Thanks again, Raze. Will let you know if a new Holy Sword works out.

You do have the latest patch installed have you? (version 1.34) Maybe that will work.
Not in the mood for cheese? That excuse has more holes than a slice this fine Gorgombert!

Hi, Morbo.
Yep, have only played with the 1.34 patch installed. Uh... At least once Raze reminded me to install it on my new computer.
Thanks for the thought!

Now have my second Nobleman's Sword, but experience the same results. I repeated the graveyard trials - fine without shield, freeze after one kill with shield.
Since I didn't have a second shield to try, I went back into Iona's to see if a different area would have different results, as you suggested, Raze.
Well, yeah... Kinda, sorta. I killed with the Sword before equipping the shield. Then I put on the shield, walked a few steps and was kicked back to the desktop. LOL I guess that is an improvement? HUMPH!
Looks like I just take my pick of the two Holy Swords - the second one has even stronger attributes, like Frost (4)!!!!! So think I'll pick up where I left off with the 1st one and hope that Sword of the Gods is compatible with the Dragon Shield. I begin to wish now that I hadn't reloaded so many times getting it!
And the beat goes on. Thanks for the input! Maybe I can now put together a few hours of play! heh

Do you have Shield Expertise? That should not matter, though, as the extra damage is applied even if you are using a two handed sword.
Maybe there is a problem with one of the animations for the shield? You could try a small shield. If this is the case, a un-install / re-install after backing up the saved games might help.

Hiya, Raze
I have no points in Shield Expertise. Will try a small shield the next time I run into one.
I notice nothing peculiar about the shield animation. It just sits ON me or IN my inventory. LOL
Enjoy your Saturday!

Update!
I thought I'd do an about face, and try a different one-handed sword with the Dragon Shield. Had never done that because I got the Singing Blade long before the Shield.
I was in Iona's Dungeon and able to kill two critters before I was kicked back to the desk top.
Shields seem to be the culprits! I'm going to try some points on Shield Expertise and see if anything changes.
Stay tuned. HA!

No banana. Put 3 points on shield. Equipped the Dragon Shield. Killed two denizons of Ionas then froze. *sigh*
Was able to just abort to desktop with Control-Shift-Escape this time, tho
I have a need to KILL right now, so I'm not gonna mess with it any more. Will take my trusty sword and just slay 'em. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I found a small metal buckler in my wanderings, and it seems to be working fine! It will really be nice if that continues to be the case so I don't have to worry about picking up a large shield and having it zoom onto ME instead of into my inventory. This way I may not freeze up.
Guess I need to look for a good one now. I certainly haven't paid any attention to small shields! LOL
Thanks for suggestion, Raze.
p.s. It sure is sad to see that Dragon Shield just sitting around, tho.

I feel compelled to follow up on this thread. heh
Got to Wastelands and was able to try out The Sword of the Gods to see if it and my Dragon Shield would cause me probs.
I was elated to find I could both walk and kill with those two items equipped!!!
However....
When I tried to reload a saved game using them, thar she blows!!! Freeze.
So... Maybe I can unequip the Dragon Shield every time I save a game. HUH?!?!?! Or I'll just **finally** give up on the idea of wearing a complete set of Dragon Armor with a weapon.
For now, it's back to my trusty small shield and prolly the Nobleman's Sword. No difficulties with that combination.
