I greatly enjoyed the first game, one of the many reasons was the lack of quest markers. I think they encourage cheap design, discourage exploration, they fundamentally change the way players approach the game and perceive the environment. The map legend in D:OS 2 now shows a quest marker symbol, but from the brief 20 minutes I played the game (Don't want to spoil myself yet) I didn't see them used.

My questions are:

-when are quest markers used in the game?
-are they also in classic mode?
-can you disable them and if so, are the quest logs and dialouges written in a way not to punish players who turn them off?

I did not see any quest marker (red flag) yet, playing classic mode.

For me, not used to the first game, it was a bit annoying in the early EA how few infos you got from the game about quests. I don't need quest markers but some advice in the form of good descriptions, hints or location markers (yellow thingy) were fine.

For me now it is ok how it is done in the swamp.

I'm slightly surprised I don't object more to the lack of quest markers after being so used to "follow the cheese" in Oblivion et al. I guess absolutely no description at all is still better than me trying to find my way to Sulipund in Morrowind with a queue of cliff-racers vying to annoy me. Nothing can possibly be worse than that, surely. I probably shouldn't say that otherwise someone will decide to have a laugh and make something that actually is worse than that.

As someone who is absolutely bollocks at video games but still loves them I prefer to have quest markers. However I think the best solution would be to make a setting that allows them to be turned on and off at will. That way people like you who prefer less hand-holding can adventure without them and filthy casuals like me can enjoy our game a bit easier.

-Serious brownie points if you get the character to whom I am referring.-
