As the title says, I believe I accidentally deleted the save game that I was playing from.

Is there any way to recover those? (I'm playing on Steam).

Thank you.

I don't suppose you have a recent backup of your My Documents folder?

Do you have Windows shadow copies enabled, if applicable? Try right clicking the profile's savegames_patch folder, select Properties and (if available) switch to the Previous Versions tab to see if there are any previous copies.

You can try a file recovery program such as Recuva, but it may not be able to completely restore a save, especially since the quick and auto saves are repeatedly overwritten. In general, the more you use the computer after files are deleted, the less likely they will be recoverable.
If you had cloud saves enabled, you can check in the Steam install folder, as well as My Documents, since Steam keeps a copy of the profile and saves there, which it uses when syncing online.

If you've exited out of the game Steam has probably already synced, but you can try the program Steam Cloud File Manager Lite (download) to check or download online saves (or delete them). You need to be logged in to the Steam client and have the game's AppID (373420 for the EE).

Other than that, you may have to revert to the previous quicksave or most recent auto or manual save.

From what you said, it sounds like what I did was override a previous quicksave with a new one.

I do have cloud saves enabled, would I be able to recover them by these means?

Yes, quick and auto saves cycle through the set number of slots (5 by default, and can be increase in the Game section of the options up to 25) and then loop around.

Steam would likely have replaced the quicksaves online with the newer ones made during that play session, when you exited the game. Sometimes it takes starting the game again to get Steam to sync the saves, so it wouldn't hurt to check.

Using the Steam Cloud Manager program, check the details of the online saves and compare them to the ones in your '..\Documents\Larian Studios\Divinity Original Sin Enhanced Edition\PlayerProfiles\<ProfileName>\Savegames_patch' folder, and see if they have the same time stamps, or earlier.
Alternately, you can just download the latest cloud save stick it in a different profile's savegame_patch folder (or rename the save folder and files in it keeping them matching, and place it in your existing profile), then load the save and see if it matches the current one or not. Having it match is more likely, but if Steam didn't sync, you can still get the version from the last time it did.

Unfortunately they are all synced. Well that's two weeks of work gone... T_T Lesson learned the hard way.

Thanks for all your help, at least now I won't make that mistake.
