So completely new to this game, and have just tinkered for a few hours on Early Access and have a question;

How does one use a character you've created in Multiplayer in another online game? I tried joining a random game and I was the Red Prince. I created a Shadowblade and played solo in Multiplayer mode up to Fort Joy before saving a logging out. Couldn't seem to use him in other games though.

Short answer: You don't.

The characters are part of the save on the server that you play on. Characters cannot be transferred between games.

If you join a game at character creation, you can customise your own character.

If you join a game in progress you can play as any of the party members assigned to you (almost certainly one of the supporting cast).

You will be able to customise and respec characters after you escape the island, so you can re-create any character you like later on if you do join a multiplayer game that you were not part of from the beginning.

Thanks for that! So would I be right in assuming that the game is super fluid in that sense? It's not like Diablo where you take a character you've invested in into other games? If so what's the incentive to level and gear in solo / multiplayer if you're starting from scratch every game?

you play it like a singleplayer game.. go thru it then do it again differently ect..

if you want progression and a more permanent character thats what the GameMaster mode is for.. you can reuse characters in that mode.

Thanks for the reply! Think I understand better now. So everytime you want to play with your friends it's a whole new experience? I assume that there are no character saves even in a party that created its characters together from the beginning?

Characters are all saved by the gamehost, similar like playing Stellaris or Civilisation together.

You don't have to restart the game every single time, you can play multiplayer as long as you like, with up to 4 players. The host can then save the game and next time he can rehost that save file and the people that played can rejoin again with their old characters.
