I was very surprised and confused over the fact that there is apparently no support at all in the game for wielding a wand in one hand and a melee weapon in the other. To me, it seems like a fairly obvious combination, reminscent of the classical image of a wizard with a staff in one hand and a sword in the other (looking at you, gandalf).

Currently, as least as far as I've tested, the character will only use the weapon in their main hand if they are holding a wand and a melee weapon. If the main-hand holds a wand, only wand attacks are made. If the main-hand holds a melee weapon, only melee attacks will be used.

This is very odd to me as it seems to me at least that if you're able to equip a wand/sword combo, you should also be able to utilize it. It would also be very interesting to use that for an inquisitor-esq character, combining warfare/aero/necro into a build that pretty much is a beast at removing armor and then stacking on a ton of status effects...

What are you guys' thoughts on this? Personally, I think Larian should get on this ASAP! If it isn't in the game at release-time, then it should be implemented in a future patch!

Gandalf is a staff user not a wand user? That's why he normally either the staff or the sword, but not both at the same time?

Going for magic and physical armor at the same timme will also never be really effective.

Could be a +5% Dodge Passive Skill called "Parry Stance" or something.

At the moment, it is not really a question of it being "effective" or not. It is mostly desirable due to immersion and rp reasons. As for the "Parry Stance" thing, it is already implemented. But the issue is not the defense, but the actual use of the weapons. Holding a sword in main-hand and a wand in the off-hand, the character will act as if the wand doesn't exist, and vice-versa.

One weapon is magical ranged, the other is physical melee. Both weapons need totally different combat moves, similar to using a sword and a gun at the same time. You can't hit with a sword and aim with the gun at the same time. Also taking a gun into close range does not sound that smart either.

Same goes for parrying with a wand, they are not really made to be physical sturdy, they are made to channel magical energy.

except parrying is in the game.. dual wielding gives you a passive bonus to dodge.
