I met the Red Prince as a lvl 2 character. I expected I would be able to assign his attributes (2), and combat skills (1). Instead these were already assigned for me. I looked in the options, but did not see an "auto level" option.

Is this a change from EA, or am I blind? Alternatively, is there a file I can edit to change the behavior from meeting a NPC and having thier level points allocated for me?

I agree that the auto allocation is terrible. To make it worse, they love to spec into CON. Out of all stat, CON!

My plan was to pick up Sibill after level 4 and maybe even at the end of act one, but the threat of the game allocating stats (talents) is not acceptable. I'll have to run the boat again, and make sure I am less then level 2. frown

PS If a dev reads this, the banner at the top of the forums page still says early access.
PPS A wonderful feature, at least for me, would be a quick start button that put you on the beach of Fort Joy when you start the game. Please don't take offense developers, it is a lovely boat and a good experience for new players, but I have run it enough. Options make players happy.

I was surprised with this change, I really liked the way how it worked in EA.

Also there are stat allocation bug(s).. when you get Fane as party member and select him as Shadowblade, he only has 3 points allocated on attributes instead of 4.. he gets no extra for his polymorph skill.

Wait so we can no longer choose the stats of the companions at all when they level ?

Is it just the level they are when recruiting them that you can't change, or is it the case that if they level up after joining your party, you can't change their stats?

If the former, that would be irksome, but I could deal with it, but it's the latter, then that is definitely a big problem.

what if I end up disagreeing with a companion's actions and give them the boot at level 8 as a result?

If a I recruit a replacement companion, they will be leveled for me. I find that more than irksome....

The former. They'll join your party at-level with their stats allocated, however after they join your party you have full control of how they level. That's my experience at least

Ah that's alright then. I'll just create my own party from scratch using 4 clients to create party then save it and load it with only 1 client.

I do remember them saying (again, can't recall where) that apparently near the end of act 1 / start of act 2 that you'll be able to do a "respec" on your characters. There was a thread asking about details here on the forums, but that's about all that's known is there IS an option to "rebuild" the characters IN GAME. The question of course is at what point and what requirements there are to unlock the "respec" option.

As to the 4 player as 1 player ... keep in mind that is likely not what they intended and it may very well break certain "flags" in the game when you would otherwise MEET the characters normally.

But if you insist on trying it, there's a youtube video of how it was done (of course it was done during alpha so they might have already removed that option for release).

And yes, I do agree that auto-levelling their stats based on your level DOES suck. I hope they make a patch to change that. Because it can be painful if you don't get all the companions as quickly as possible.

I'd love to have the old system back. I like the little min-maxing choices.

Respec is fine, but it's later on and may cost a lot of resources.

I thought the old system was fine. Considering how sparse equipment is early Fort Joy, and how important gear is for Tactician, any little advantage you can get is important. Having your scoundrel spend 2 points in con when it could have been finesse or wit really hurts the early levels. Also throwing 2 points in sneaking instead of thievery... And far as I can work out having restarted 3-4 times already, you are guaranteed level 2 as soon as you step into the Dallis scene with Atusa. At least that always levels me.

EDIT: I figured out that there is a ladder on one side of the atusa scene. Using it you can go recruit your whole party before activating that scene. I think using this you can do everything (read: kill everyone) on the ship, then explore before the fort, and still be level 1 when you get everyone. Kinda cheapo and a little annoying but I guess it's a workaround until, and if, a patch comes in.

I feel I waste points putting Bartering, etc. on my initial toons when some of the companions will just wind up with those same things. Letting us fully flesh out the NPCs would help a lot here.

I discovered a partial way around the problem. If you have a full party and try to recruit a fifth member you will be able to select their class but they will tell you to remove someone before they can join. Once you dump the Red Prince for being a narcissistic megalomaniac, you can add the person you were trying to recruit. The person you were trying to recruit will only be level one, and you can level up as in the early access.

A little gaming of the game, but better than allocating stats in CON and civil in Bartering at level 2.

Heres how I create my own party from scratch (you can even use 4 origin characters if you want)

my PC cant handle 4 clients open at the same time with normal settings I lower the settings down to lowest resolution and lowest graphic settings and I turn off sound but if you have a really good PC with good processor you might be able to skip doing this

Now in order to open 4 clients you have to open them with the exe in the install directory.

Make sure you have 4 profiles made for each client otherwise they will just be named Debug 1-4

then start a MP game with your normal profile

Switch over to the other clients and have them join the game while in character creation ( look under the lan tab to find your own game faster with the 2nd 3rd and 4th clients)

then proceed to create all 4 characters on each client

start game on all 4 clients once in game Save the game on the host client (which should be your normal profile) then exit the game on all clients relaunch game (fix settings if you lowered them)

Now load the save and there you go fully custom party all level 1 and you start on the boat already together

now the drawback of doing this you get to choose the dialog everyone says cause there actually MP characters and there isnt any conflict between them unless you make them have conflict by choosing different things

it plays exactly like a Multiplayer game would but with 1 person controlling all the characters

i dont think you can kick a character out and recruit anyone else either
