Hi! I was playing with a friend and soon after we started I decided I want to play another character. Can I make a new one and join my friend's game? Or if I play to the point we stopped, could my friend join with his older character? Otherwise, is there a way to fully re-customize my character (including voice) in the 1st act?

No, you need to start a fully new game or try respeccing later how far respeccing will go is unknown though.
