Larian Studios Forums Divinity: Original Sin 2 Divinity - Original Sin 2 - Bugs & Technical Problems Solved - System lockup in skillup screen

I can play normally it seems right up until I go into inventory and then select one of the skillup icons. It usually shows me the skills for a minute or so but then I get a purple screen and a solid locked PC. I did also have a white screen solid lock on the first instance of waking up on the island. This time I skipped the video just in case. Needless (I hope) to say this makes the game largely unplayable since i'm stuck not being able to assign skills. I have updated my NVidia drivers to the latest version. I have nothing else running on my system. I7 with 16GB of ram should be fine. I can play ESO and Rift on high all day and all night with zero problems. I have the GOG version if it matters.

Seems to be resolved by a combination reinstalling everything including the VC runtime and possibly removing my xbox controller which wasn't working in DOS2 anyway.
