I played tactician mode in the original and I certainly remember it being difficult at first but nowhere near the difficulty of divinity original sin 2. I am sure it will get easier down the line but early on I find it incredibly frustrating.

As a result I would like to mod the game to reduce the insane boost to stats enemies get in tactician mode. Are there some settings files where I can easily edit this? Or perhaps a mod would be required? Does something already exist for this maybe?

I appreciate in advance any suggestions or instructions.

Thanks!

There's more than one way to do this.

The way to do it in the editor is create an add-on project, more on that here: http://docs.larian.game/Working_with_projects.

Make sure to set it to target project for and load data from Story. (you might not actually need to load data from, but I'm not sure so just do it :P)

After that load it up and open the stats editor. I don't think there's a guide for that yet. But it's on the top bar of the editor.

Then inside the stats editor look for Projects>Shared>Stats>Character

Inside there you'll find an entry for HardcoreNPC. Right click that row and then select "override in YOURMOD NAME". That will create an entry for HardcoreNPC in your mod which will override the normal settings and copy all the defaults to start.

Then move over to the right side and modify the values. By default it has an armor, magic, damage and vitality boost of 50. You can just start lowering the number till you get what you need. Compare it to the "NormalNPC" or "CasualNPC" entries to see the differences.

Save it all up and try it.

Thanks for your replies! I was able to figure it out in this thread:

http://larian.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=612628&Searchpage=1&Main=73794&Words=tactician+mode+settings&Search=true#Post612628

with a simple text file mod.

You can download the extracted Character.txt file here:
http://www.filedropper.com/character

Edit it with Notepad or Notepad ++ variant. See post above for area to modify, for example:
new entry "HardcoreNPC" section

Save it here:
You will need to create a few sub directories
..\Divinity Original Sin 2\Data\Public\Shared\Stats\Generated\Data

Start the game, there will be a warning about a modified version, run it and you can see the changes in Vitality for example using before/after.

Q:
What does this do and what should i edit?

A:
The goal is to adjust the stat boost NPC's get in Tactician mode.

Q:
That file in the game directory? Or do i copy this file you posted and paste it into the appropriate directory?

A:
Yes copy that. Go to your game directory, however as you drill down the sub folders will no longer exist, add those in as shown here. ..\Divinity Original Sin 2\Data\Public\Shared\Stats\Generated\Data

Once copied in here, edit the file.

Q:
I should edit only the "hardcoreNPC"?
What do i edit to lower their hp bloat and armor bloat?

A:
Yes. You can edit what you like, but the topic is NPC hp/armor bloat etc.

Q:
ok then, so

HARD:

new entry "HardcorePlayer"
type "Character"

new entry "HardcoreNPC"
type "Character"
data "ArmorBoost" "0"
data "MagicArmorBoost" "0"
data "Vitality" "0"
data "DamageBoost" "0"
data "Accuracy" "0"

hows this?

Or do i just delete those last five entries alltogether?

A:
You can do either, set to 0 or remove the line.

I also suggest you go into HardcorePlayer and add:
data "Vitality" "100"

Check your Vitality before, then do this whole step above, run the game and check vitality after, it should be noticeably higher. This is to make sure this mod has kicked and you done it right. Then when it is working, exit, remove the Players Vitality 100 and play the game with adjusted NPC stats.

This is all based on if Tactician mode is more than just stat boosts. I don't think that has been clearly answered. If is it just a stat boost, play another difficulty level then.

Q to RAZE: Are you able to confirm Tactician mode is just stat boosts or is their additional AI behaviors, mob formations, etc? Thanks.

I tried this, the vitality score was changed. It seems it works.
Props to Horroscope.

Exploring further.

Baardvark, it's been a while since I messed with DOS files.

What I'm currently doing is unpacking, editing and then placing the txt file(s) in a shared sub-folder and the game picks it up on start up. The old-school way.

What are you doing?

Are you repacking after the change and making it a mod that goes into the \mod folder?

Are you using the editor now to do these?

Interested to know, so when I get into this more later, I'm doing the new, right thing?

Any link to the process you use?

Thanks in advance.

I'm making an actual mod with the editor now. Though I still have a lot of my bard mod files and other stuff purely as text files. I'm going to be streaming tonight at 5:30 PST (in 1.5 hours), going over the stat editor, making new skills, etc.

Did you happen to save the stream and if so, can you share the link, would love to see this.

Here's me going over the stat files and unpacking stuff. Stream broke for some reason so that's all I got to, maybe do more stuff later.
